Our Cooking Outreach team has been busy turning surplus food into nutritious ingredients for future programs—all while reducing food waste and food costs! 💥
Thanks to grant funding, we purchased a Thermomix, which helps us efficiently transform and preserve excess fresh ingredients from our programs and Community Market.
So far, we've made:
🍅 Tomato Sauce from surplus tomatoes from our Chefs in Training program, plus other vegetables from the Community Market that were at risk of going to waste
🧅 Vegetable Stock from excess onions, garlic, and other vegetables from Chefs in Training
🍏 Apple & Pear Sauce from surplus apples and pears from Chefs in Training
🍓 Blueberry & Raspberry Jam from 44 clamshells of berries from the Community Market that were at risk of going to waste
Made entirely from whole foods, these preserved ingredients will be used in our Cooking Outreach programs—improving food access and nutrition for children and community members while reducing waste and stretching our food budget further. 💪👩🍳
Pretty cool, eh? 😎
