Howard Lyman, a former cattle rancher who saw the light and went vegan, has passed on. He became a strong voice for animal rights and will forever be remembered for his efforts to get other ranchers, farmers and all who would listen to end animal exploitation.

Howard Lyman set an example for farmers and kind people everywhere: once you open your eyes to animals’ suffering, you can change. You can grow vegan foods, eat vegan, and choose kindness. We’ll remember his courage and decades of speaking up for animals 💙

A brave Canadian hero, Jesse Adams, founder of Raincoast Dog Rescue Society, has saved many many dogs around the world. Tragically Jesse, who was risking his life to help dogs in Ukraine, was killed in the line of duty by a Russian drone. We will remember Jesse, a true war hero 🫡😔🐾

For millions of baby chicks, being born into the egg industry has meant facing a heartbreaking fate. 💔🐣

For years, male chicks have been killed shortly after hatching because they cannot lay eggs and are not the breeds typically raised for meat. Many have been killed using a method known as chick shredding, also called maceration.

But France has taken an important step to change that.

Starting January 1, 2023, France banned the routine killing of male chicks in the egg-laying industry. The change affects a practice that once led to the deaths of nearly 50 million male chicks in France every year.

Instead of waiting for these chicks to hatch, hatcheries can use technology to determine the s*x of embryos inside eggs. This allows male embryos to be identified before hatching and helps prevent millions of chicks from entering a system where they would otherwise be killed.

This is a meaningful step for animal welfare. But there is still work to do. The rules have exceptions, and the ban does not cover every part of the poultry industry. Male chicks are still killed in some other production systems.

Every step that prevents unnecessary suffering matters. These tiny animals may be only hours old, but they can still experience pain and deserve humane treatment.

We hope to see more countries follow France's example and invest in better alternatives. Progress is possible when governments take animal welfare seriously.

Baby chicks deserve better. No animal should have to die simply because they cannot lay eggs.

Ontario is proposing a historic, province-wide ban on horse slaughter & the handling of horse meat in provincially-licensed slaughterhouses 🐴

Public concern for horse welfare was cited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Agribusiness as the driving force behind this proposal—proving that together, our voices are making a difference!

Systemic cruelty within this industry has gone on for far too long, & we applaud Ontario for taking a stand. By going a step further & banning the sale & transport of horses for slaughter, Ontario could protect even more vulnerable horses from suffering.
