On September 30, LiUNA Local 1089 recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and honours the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities.

We encourage our members and community to take time to reflect, learn, and listen as we continue the work of reconciliation.

Our office will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and will resume regular office hours on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

We’re proud to see one of our own, Tammy, putting in the hard work and helping keep our community moving safely!

Spotters play an important role on a busy maintenance turnaround, keeping an extra set of eyes on vehicles, equipment, and workers throughout the site.

Another great example of a LiUNA Local 1089 member getting the job done! Keep up the great work, Tammy! Feel the power! 👷‍♀️💪

Meet Tammy, one of the spotters supporting our $100 Million+ maintenance turnaround. With hundreds of people on shift and all kinds of vehicles and equipment moving around busy areas, spotters help keep an extra set of eyes on what's happening around them, from forklifts and trucks to pedestrians and those on bicycles heading to and from work areas. It's an important job in a busy turnaround environment. Thanks, Tammy and the rest of our spotters for helping keep our workforce moving safely.

September 7th, we celebrated our Annual Labour Day festivities. We kicked off the day with Sarnia’s Labour Day Parade; this is Canadas longest continuously running Labour Day Parade, going 124 years strong. We are the proud winners of the 2026 trophy for Best Union Float!!

We then rolled into our Member Picnic which included a BBQ, custom cupcakes by Wanderlust Cupcakes, and Yogis fries. families enjoyed races, bouncy castles, train rides, and face painting.
We are so proud that this tradition is something members and their families look forward to every year. Thank you for coming out and making the day full of joy and energy!

A big thank you to all Executive Board Members, volunteers and staff who came out to make this event possible.

We would also like to take this time to thank Joseph Mancinelli, LiUNA International Vice President, Canadian Director, and Central and Eastern Canada Regional Manager, and Tony Pietrangelo, LiUNA Assistant Regional Manager for taking time out of their schedules to come down to Sarnia and celebrate Labour Day with Local 1089, your attendance was felt by the whole local. Thank you for celebrating with us!

Talking about su***de can significantly reduce a person’s risk of acting on it.

LiUNA Local 1089 proudly recognized retiree Rick Pinkett, as he celebrated an incredible 50 years of membership!
We were honoured to present him with his official 50-Year Gold Card from the Laborers’ International Union of North America, this celebrates 50 years of hard work and achievements which was presented to him at the monthly Retiree Club meeting among friends, pizza, and games.

On June 20, 2026, Local 1089 held our Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Huron Oaks Golf Course.

We are proud to share that the proceeds raised from this event were donated to several organizations in the Sarnia-Lambton community, including Pathways Health Centre for Children, St. Joseph’s Hospice Sarnia-Lambton, Inn of the Good Shepherd, the Shine Foundation, and Noelle’s Gift to Children.

These organizations provide important programs, services, and support to individuals and families throughout our community, and Local 1089 is honoured to contribute to the work they do.
