We've just concluded our 5th day at the table with the CEC. We've been working hard developing language that supports members and addresses the active dismantling of our college system.

The CEC tabled their full non-monetary proposal, which includes 7 articles, and we have been told that their first two articles are in response to our proposals U1: Purpose and U2: Recognition.

“These workers weren’t replaced because the work disappeared. They were replaced because FBCL chose to contract it out,” reads a statement from PSAC. “At a time when families are facing rising costs and economic uncertainty, secure employment has never been more important. When employers contract out bargaining unit work instead of retaining unionized employees, they undermine collective bargaining and weaken the workplace protections workers have fought to secure.”

Today we tabled two proposals. U-2 Recognition establishes the legal and collaborative framework for good faith bargaining, which recognises the members in our bargaining unit.

Proposal U-3, Employee/Employer Relations Committee creates a joint provincial committee that represents both parties - to address common issues that arise during the life of this Collective Agreement and make recommendations for future bargaining rounds.
