The Shuswap Trail Alliance is firmly committed to truth and reconciliation and intentional, respectful relationships with Indigenous Leadership and community members throughout the Shuswap Region. Wednesday, Sept. 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage everyone to attend an event to commemorate the day, spend time reflecting on the history of this land and listen to and learn from residential school survivors. This is in memory of the children who did not come home.

Here are just a couple of ways to participate in our region.

🌲 Little Mountain Trails: Temporary Closures

Danger tree removal work will be taking place in the northwest corner of Little Mountain Park from September 21–24, 2026.

For public safety, the following trails will be temporarily closed while crews are working:

🌲 Larch Loop
🌲 Pine Trail
🌲 Tennis Court Connector
🌲 Outer Loop Trail

📍 Northwest corner of Little Mountain Park

Trails outside the active work area will remain open. Please watch for posted signage and stay out of closed areas while work is underway.

🚧 Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail closures are scheduled to start this Monday, September 14 for shoreline stabilization work along Mara Lake between Folland Road and Rosemond Lake Bridge. The work will continue through the fall into December. 🚧

➡️ During this time, public access to the Mara Lake section of the Rail Trail between Sicamous and Mara will be limited to weekends only. The Sicamous Ferry shuttle will continue operating on weekends, 9 AM to 5 PM through September until the Thanksgiving long weekend, wrapping up on October 12.

🚶‍♂️‍➡️🚴 Crews will work to repair and clear the trail and move equipment off the trail as much as possible each Friday, to allow people to use the trail over the weekend. Please navigate through the work zones carefully, obey all signs, and expect uneven ground throughout.

✅ Rail Trail users will continue to be able to use 21 kilometres of the trail now open between Enderby, Grindrod, and Mara.

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

🚲 Another Section of the Rail Trail is Now Open!

Another section of the Splatsin te Secwépemc / Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail has officially opened between Grindrod and Enderby.

With this latest opening, 40 kilometres of continuous rail trail are now open, stretching from km 0.5 in Sicamous to km 40.5 just south of Enderby.

Trail use continues to grow, with more than 26,000 passing trail users recorded on the Sicamous–Mara Lake section and more than 24,000 through Enderby so far in 2026.

Work will continue this fall on the remaining sections, including a new access point at Stepney X Road. Major erosion mitigation work is also planned along the Mara Lake section in September and will require a temporary closure for several weeks.

CSRD Area E Parallel Trails Public Engagement: Swansea Point & Cambie-Solsqua Road

The Shuswap Trail Alliance has been asked by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District to gather public feedback regarding concerns expressed for safer pedestrian and bicycle use along roads at Swansea Point and along Cambie-Solsqua Road.

Both areas have challenges and limitations, including narrow rural road right of ways managed by the Provincial Ministry of Transportation and Transit (Cambie-Solsqua Road) and limited funding to implement major changes. But the CSRD is interested to better understand the safety concerns to explore potential options to improve walking and cycling in each of these areas.

Please take a few minutes to complete a survey on each of these areas to help us better identify conflict points and uncover barriers preventing more residents from walking or riding.
