Ageism isn't always obvious. Sometimes it shows up in the way we speak to older adults or how much we involve them in decisions that affect their lives.

When someone assumes an older person can't understand a situation or make their own choices, they may stop asking for their input altogether.

Over time, being treated this way can make people less likely to speak up, even when something doesn't feel right.

Older adults deserve to have a say in their own lives. Taking the time to listen and include them in conversations helps protect their independence and dignity.

Respecting someone's voice shouldn't change as they age.

Abuse against men often goes unrecognized, and many men may find it difficult to speak openly about what they're experiencing.

Understanding the barriers men face when seeking help is an important part of preventing abuse and making sure people feel safe reaching out for support.

Join BC CRN for our upcoming Provincial Learning Event, “Understanding Abuse of Men Across the Lifespan, Including Older Adult Men,” to learn more about this often-overlooked issue and how communities can respond with greater awareness and understanding.
