A year ago, Gymnastics Saskatchewan first introduced Project 2032, our commitment to building stronger supports and a more athlete-centred approach for our high-performance athletes. Since then, our staff have been working harder than ever to ask questions, build systems, challenge the status quo, and create a stronger foundation for athlete-centered development and success.

Project 2032 is more than a strategy. It is our commitment to the gymnastics sport ecosystem in Saskatchewan. It is a provincial framework that is designed to operationalize the GymSask Strategic Plan, where tailored development strategies and support systems provide all participants an opportunity to reach their individual potential. Governance, operations, health and wellness, coach support, parent/guardian education, and safe sport, are examples of the components included in our plan. With a vision to be a leading sport organization in Canada in the next five years, Project 2032 will provide us with the framework that guide us daily.

Our staff spent the day reflecting on what reconciliation means to them as we prepare to recognize this year’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Read below for each reflection 🧡

“Having been born in northern British Columbia and worked in the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan, Truth and Reconciliation to me is about honoring the profound relationship between the people and the land. It means listening to the deep histories written into these northern landscapes, acknowledging the hard truths of our shared past, and actively building a future rooted in mutual respect, continuous learning, and meaningful partnership.” - Terrol

“Reconciliation is about more than symbolic gestures, it’s a commitment to building equal, respectful, relationships and closing the gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. It’s recognizing that we are all treaty people with shared rights, duties and responsibilities.” - Danielle

“To me, reconciliation means being willing to listen, learn, and understand. It means recognizing the history of Indigenous people in Canada, acknowledging the harm that has been done, and thinking about what we can do differently moving forward. It could be creating welcoming and inclusive spaces, learning how to better teach future generations, or simply taking the time to participate in and learn from Indigenous events and communities. I think we all have a role to play in reconciliation.” - Amelia

“To me, reconciliation is the process understanding our history as treaty peoples, rejecting problematic beliefs/culture, as well as building and maintaining meaningful relationships. The work of reconciliation must be ongoing, actionable, and used as a lens to guide our direction forward.” - Ben

“Reconciliation is a lifelong journey of reflection and education. Growing up in Sask, there are still so many things I don’t know about our history. Every time I attend a new event or make a new connection in the community, I learn something new, and recognize how much I still have to learn. It can be a long and emotional journey at times, but it is one that is incredibly important, and I am committed to continuing it.” - Dalena
