Fallen Heros: Their Journey Home is the companion film to our Mission: Afghanistan exhibit running now at the RCMP Heritage Centre. Its first screening will be this SUNDAY JUNE 7 at 1 PM, and will continue to screen every Sunday at 1 PM until the end of August.

This film was conceived to honour the men and women who served and sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan and to raise awareness with Canadians about the rituals of the Ramp Ceremony and Highway of Heroes that developed out of heartfelt need to say a final goodbye to the fallen as they were repatriated to Canada.

If you were planning on seeing Who Wears The Uniform? & Mission:Afghanistan, plan for it on a Sunday so you can take in this film as well.

Standing Free is the debut feature by Ukrainian-Canadian director Maxim Khomenko, a deeply personal war documentary filmed across Ukraine over three separate visits during the ongoing conflict. Through the eyes of children, civilians, and soldiers, Maxim captures the human cost of Russian aggression—and his own journey through war-torn Ukraine.

The Tomb of Canada’s Unknown Soldier was officially dedicated on May 28, 2000 at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.

The remains of an unidentified Canadian soldier, repatriated from near Vimy Ridge in France, were laid to rest. Chosen from the Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, he came home to represent more than 116,000 Canadians who died in conflict, many without known graves.

In not knowing his name, he became a shared symbol of sacrifice. The dedication called on every generation to reflect, to remember, and to live in a way that honours that sacrifice.

Today, the tradition of placing poppies, flowers, and letters on the tomb continues as a quiet promise that he, and all he represents, will never be forgotten.

Lest we forget.
