What a fantastic day! On Saturday we celebrated the grand opening of the new banding station at the Last Mountain Bird Observatory which was renamed The Bill & Joyce Anaka Bird Banding Station at the Last Mountain Bird Observatory due to their very generous support.

The day was filled with banding demonstrations, walking tours, games and even birthday cake for Al Smith, founder and retired Bander-in-Charge.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us! The station will be open for fall migration beginning in early August and we welcome visitors!

🐦At the Last Mountain Bird Observatory (LMBO) staff and qualified volunteers capture and band roughly 3000 birds each year. These long-term local efforts have contributed critical information on population trends and continental migration routes of our favourite birds. The Last Mountain Bird Observatory was established in 1989 and is part of the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network. LMBO along with other stations keeps track of the numbers of migrating land birds. Since its beginning in 1989 over 65,000 birds of 115 species has been banded at LMBO.🐦

A special thank you goes out to Cypress Sales Partnership for their help with the BBQ lunch.

On Friday May 29, we were honored to be presented an RCE-SK Education for Sustainable Development Recognition Award for our NatureHood programming. While we are so proud as an organization for receiving this award, we must give credit where credit is due. Lacey Weekes, our Conservation & Education Manager, has poured her heart and soul into this programming and has made it what it is today.

Lacey has worked tirelessly and passionately to bring nature education to students in and around Regina. We are grateful for her dedication to nature education and sincerely thank RCE Saskatchewan for this award and recognizing Lacey's work.
