Last night, PGSAR joined Quesnel SAR and Central Cariboo SAR in the search and rescue of an older gentleman in medical distress who had already spent a night in the woods near Wells.
Supported by the RCMP and CASARA, teams searched difficult terrain for hours before locating him and providing medical care.
With a challenging 2 km stretcher extraction ahead, the decision was made to keep him warm and safe overnight. Four SAR members and a small support crew hunkered down to spend the full night until daylight with the subject through unfavourable conditions. At first light, PGSAR’s helicopter long-line (CDFL) team and Yellowhead Helicopters successfully lifted him to a road where BC Ambulance Service was waiting.
The operation lasted over 17 hours and involved approximately 30 SAR volunteers—some of whom had also responded to another search near Prince George that same night.
A huge thank you to Quesnel SAR, Central Cariboo SAR, PGSAR, CASARA, RCMP, BCAS and Yellowhead Helicopters.
An incredible team effort by dedicated volunteers and partners to bring someone home safely.
