This week's Music Monday is from an impromptu jam session that Orchestra North participants jumped into while waiting for a group picture. This was after all the participants had performed for an hour in different locations around Canada Games Plaza. It warmed our hearts to see their enthusiasm to keep playing! 😍

The PG Conservatory of Music has four different groups specifically for young children!

🥁Rhythm, Rhyme and Song introduces children (6 months to 3 years) and their parents to music learning in a fun and relaxed environment. Classes are designed specifically to prepare infants and toddlers for the later development of accurate rhythmic and singing skills as well as sensitivity to the expressive qualities of music. Gross motor and fine motor control is also developed through simple dances and finger play. In addition to playing rhythm instruments, children will be introduced to a range of instruments played by the instructor.

🎶Sunrise is an exciting and innovative pre-school music & movement program. Stories, songs, and games guide children and their parents on their music journey with singing, rhythm and ear training. For 3 and 4 year olds.

🎻Strings for me! is a fun, age appropriate way for families to join the musical world of string playing! Using the Mother Tongue Method developed by Shinichi Suzuki, students will gain all the building blocks necessary to begin learning Twinkle Twinkle. No previous musical experience necessary. This group welcomes young violinists ages 4-6 and their parents.

🎹The Music for Young Children® (MYC®)
Give your child a strong foundation in music through a program that combines piano, singing, rhythm, movement, music theory and creativity. MYC® classes are designed specifically for young learners, with parents participating alongside their children as they build skills and confidence together. Ages 4-9

This week's Tip of the Hat goes to the Vancouver Academy Of Music Harp Ensemble for their fabulous performance of our harp teacher's (Shoshanna Godber) arrangement of "Simple Gifts" at One Harp World in Toronto! How wonderful to have Prince George represented at what is essentially the Olympics of the harp world, held only once every three years and bringing together top performers, composers, and harp legends from over 50 countries. 🎶 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1KTBTWRwH9/

We are incredibly excited to announce that Cantora Allegre has joined the Conservatory! Since its formation in 2017, Cantora Alegre has grown from a small group of twelve singers to a three-time winner at the Performing Arts of BC festival. Throughout this journey, its primary mission has remained the same: to sing together in a supportive and joyful atmosphere, just as thename—meaning "Joyful Songstress" in Portuguese—suggests.

This treble choir will continue to perform under the direction of choral director Kathy Pereira, exploring a diverse repertoire ranging from madrigals to traditional and contemporary works. Pianist, Elizabeth Klassen will join the choir as accompanist. Weekly rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7:15 - 9 pm, including statutory holidays.

If you are interested in joining this positive and vibrant community of singers, auditions will be held at our Open House on Monday, September 14, at 7:15 pm. Currently our group is seeking soprano singers. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing our music. Cantora Alegre - open house and auditions
