Got bear p**p? CNC wants to know!

Northern Bear Awareness Society (NBAS) and CNC Research Forest’s research collection period is coming to a close for the year, but we’re still collecting!

We’re grateful for the community’s support so far. If you’ve been meaning to share any recent observations or footage, there’s still time to contribute. Let’s end the season with strong local data to support safer, more informed coexistence with wildlife.

Good answers to common questions about who can vote in the municipal election.

Good answers to common questions about who can vote in the municipal election.

While out campaigning yesterday, three comments came up about voting for school trustees. As other people may be thinking the same things, I thought they were worth sharing.

1. "I don't have children or grandchildren in school, so I don't vote for school trustees."

School District 57 has an annual budget of over $200 million, which comes from tax dollars. School trustees make decisions about how those resources are used.

We all rely on nurses, tradespeople, local businesses, and other services in our communities. The people providing those services were once students themselves. And the current students in our schools today will be the people working, volunteering, and contributing to our communities in the years ahead.

You don't need to have children or grandchildren in school to have an interest in how our public education system is governed.

2. "I live in the Regional District, so I can't vote for school trustees."

Yes, you can!

School District 57 extends well beyond Prince George city limits. The Prince George trustee electoral area includes rural communities such as Ness Lake, Beaverly, Pineview, and Willow River, among others. Eligible voters in these areas can vote for the same five trustee positions as residents of the city.

Regional District elections don't get nearly as much attention as city elections, which is likely part of the confusion.

One important detail: if you live outside city limits, make sure you check where to vote. Regional District residents have their own voting arrangements, which aren't necessarily the same as those for city residents.

3. "I rent, so I can't vote."

Renters can vote too!

There's sometimes confusion between resident electors and non-resident property electors.

If you live in an electoral area and meet the usual voter requirements (have lived in BC for 6 months, Canadian citizen, 18 and over, etc), you can vote as a resident elector. You don't need to own property. It's one person, one vote, whether you rent or own your home.

Non-resident property electors is a separate category for people who own qualifying property in an electoral area where they don't live, with more complicated rules.

Whether you're a renter, homeowner, or someone whose children finished school years ago, you may be eligible to vote for school trustees.

General Election Day is Saturday, October 17. Make sure you know which electoral area you live in, and where you can vote.

DPAC is hosting a Meet the School Trustee Candidates forum on October 14th for the upcoming election that takes place on October 17th.
We will be asking questions to help voters decide who they feel will best serve our familes and lead our district.

The candidates from the Robson Valley and the acclaimed candidate from Mackenzie have also been invited to attend alongside the Prince George area candidates.

Due to the large number of candidates and in the interest of time, we ask you to either email in questions ahead of time to [email protected] or through our messenger here on Facebook.

Thank you!

The Board of Education held its open meeting on June 22, 2026.

Highlights of the meetings are available on the Board's bulletin, available here:https://22.files.edl.io/a97d/06/24/26/201233-228e70f5-2d60-4e72-925d-b43ad3f4733e.pdf

I do get some questions about student travel. There was a letter in the agenda regarding that, in response from a question from the Shas Ti Kelly Road PAC - I'll copy that in here.
