A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Prince George Astronomical Observatory from August 13–15 to experience the Perseids Meteor Shower!

Over 860 people visited the Observatory over those three incredible nights! Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and love for the night sky made the event special.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us, asked questions, explored the Observatory, and shared the experience with family and friends.

We can’t wait to welcome you back!

Our regular Friday Night Open Houses will begin again on September 4, 2026.

Join us at the Prince George Astronomical Observatory for the final night of the Perseids Meteor Shower. Come enjoy an evening filled with astronomy, fascinating presentations, meteors, and beautiful northern skies.

Doors open: 8:30 p.m.
First presentation: 8:45 p.m.

There may be a lineup at the entrance, especially early in the evening. Please be patient with us as we welcome everyone into the facility. We appreciate your understanding and patience as our volunteers work to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.

Malhar will kick off the evening with a presentation about the Perseids Meteor Shower and its parent comet, 109P/Swift-Tuttle. We’ll have at least two or three same presentations throughout the evening, followed by plenty of time to head outside and watch for meteors.

Please bring a camping chair and a warm blanket so you can comfortably enjoy the meteor shower outdoors.

Suggested donation: $2 per person or $5 per family. Your donations help support the observatory and allow us to continue keeping our doors open for the community.

A friendly reminder from the Prince George Astronomical Society: please slow down and use extra caution when driving toward the observatory during evening events.

On busy nights, people may be parking along the road, and children and animals may be nearby. Please watch your speed, stay alert, and be prepared for people or animals near the roadway.

A little extra care helps keep everyone safe and makes these events enjoyable for the whole community.

The Prince George Astronomical Observatory invites the public to experience the annual Perseid Meteor Shower on August 13, 14, and 15.

Doors open at 8:30 p.m., with the evening beginning at 8:45 p.m. with an engaging presentation by Malhar Kendurkar, "Perseids and Comet 109P/Swift–Tuttle." Following the presentation, guests will have the opportunity to observe the Perseid meteor shower and other celestial objects through the Observatory's telescopes, weather permitting.

As temperatures can become quite cool after sunset, we recommend dressing warmly. Guests are also encouraged to bring a reclining lawn chair and a blanket for a more comfortable meteor-watching experience.

A suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is greatly appreciated. Donations help support the Prince George Astronomical Observatory and enable us to continue providing free public astronomy events and educational programs throughout the year.

That’s a wrap on our Open House season at the Prince George Astronomical Observatory!

A huge thank you to the 1,000+ visitors who came through our doors this season — whether you stopped by to explore the night sky, asked thoughtful (and sometimes very challenging!) questions, or generously supported us through donations, we truly appreciate each and every one of you.

Your curiosity, enthusiasm, and support are what keep our observatory thriving.

We’re not done yet though — we’re already looking ahead to summer!
We’re planning to host special daytime Open Houses featuring views of the Sun through Hydrogen Alpha telescopes, giving you a chance to see solar flares and prominences in incredible detail.

We’re also considering hosting a public movie night under the stars — and we’d love to hear from you!
