Of course this will only be a small part of what we are doing this weekend. IF you are looking for the rest of us during the day time, we will be indoors.

The East Peterborough Lions Club have been invited to host the Food concession for the Hand of Man Craft Show for three days and we are super excited to be doing that. And the beauty of that is that it takes place in the Morrow Building right next to the Peterborough Farmers' Market!

So when you are done checking out the fresh fruits and vegetables, come on over to the Hand of Man Craft Show and see all the wonderful hand made articles for sale. And enjoy something fresh made at the Lions Booth.

And then just when you thought we were through, you could join us as we celebrate Halloween with our Annual Trunk or Treat event being held in the parking lot at Roger Neilson (550 Erskine Ave.) Bring the little ones and enjoy the fun. Its an all inclusive event that is sure to put smiles on all who enter.

The Event start at 5:30 and runs until we are all out of treats. Looking forward to seeing the smile on all the faces.

And now for a quick update on what the East Peterborough Lions are up to this coming weekend.

If you are looking for us, please look no further than right here in Peterborough.

On Saturday at the Peterborough Farmers' Market we will be hosting their monthly Commodity Days, celebrating Pumpkins. The Club will be serving some Sweet Pumpkin Puff pastry along with some Savory Pumpkin Hummus. This will be free of charge (while supplies last) and everything is provided by the wonderful vendors of the Peterborough Farmers' Market.

As well, the club will be holding its first Carved Pumpkin contest. Hosted by Lion Allison and three judges choosing the winning display. So please drop by and enjoy the wonderful imagination of the young talent in Peterborough.

Last night the East Peterborough Lions Club members were thrilled to once again be a part of the Five Counties Children's Center All'oween Event. The East Peterborough Lions Club hosted a free BBQ for the event.

It was so great to see the adults dressed up as well as the children. We saw so many different costumes and so many smiles all night long.

A huge thank you to the folks at Five Counties Children's Centre for all they do for people. And again thank you for inviting us to be a part of this event. And of course a big thank you from myself for each of the members that came out to work. You lions rock!

Ok, I have tonight off so I wanted to take this opportunity to catch up on the Club posts. But I do have a second reason for doing so.

Today is the actual date of our clubs Anniversary. On this day in 1976 the East Peterborough Lions Club was chartered and I am so thankful to say that after 50 years we are still going strong. In fact we are building steam, to keep this club alive and well.

This past Saturday October 24th the East Peterborough held a Charter Anniversary in honor of their 50 proud years as a club. And what a celebration it was.

Please forgive me if I place a blanket thank you to everyone that attended. I don't want to take the chance on forgetting anyone when I say THANK YOU ALL for making our Anniversary a huge success. Everyone of you that came to the podium, that came through our doors and that sent shared your time with us showed the members of our club just what it feels like to be proud to be a Lion.

Most of all a big thank you to President Lion Theresa and the committee that worked to make this day such a special occasion. The hours of labour and the work involved truly showed for all to see.

The generosity and the wonderful comments we received were simply amazing to hear. The highlight of the evening for me was the standing ovation for Lion Doug Galt. But there were so many things that this club can be thankful for that night.

Imagine this club is turning 50 years old and we get to celebrate it with so many important people today.

50 Days to 50 Years - Con't

Only 3 more days to go and YEP it is getting closer and closer and the excitement in our club is building.

But for today I want to talk about our dinner meeting this past Monday October 19th. What a special event it was and as always this club like to put a different spin on what we do.

Following a wonderful Turkey dinner with all the fixings prepared by our own Program and Entertainment Committee (Lion Nadine, Lion Laura, Lion Rick and Lion Tim), we were treated to some fun and frivolity by our Tail Twister Lion Lucas.

Then we were treated to our guest speaker for the night. We had the privilege of having our District A3 Zone 10 Center Zone Chair Lion Theresa Hewitt attend and she gave us an awesome talk about what is happening at International, District and right in our own backyards. She then presented Lion Wayne with his 45th year Service Chevron. Congratulations to Lion Wayne Halstead and THANK YOU for ALL you have done and continue to do.

We also had the a special night when we inducted two NEW Lions into the service of the East Peterborough Lions Club. And of course it was a different ceremony since we had a District officer in attendance and our Club Membership Chair at the same meeting, it was decided they would share the ceremony. So they both took half of the program and worked together to make the event special for the two new Lions.

A huge thank you to PDG Lion Frank for helping to grow the East Peterborough Lions Club once again. And of course a huge congratulations to NEW LIONS Elizabeth MacNaught and Ben Abbott. And yes, thank you to Zone 10 C Chair Lion Theresa Hewitt for joining us for the night.

Yes it was a busy night but then it wouldn't have been an East Peterborough Lions club meeting if it wasn't busy.

Another fun busy weekend. Working the Peterborough Farmers' Market, the Kinsman Minor Football is always so much fun no matter what the weather. And this past weekend it was COLD!.

A big thank you to everyone that was able to come out and join us this past weekend. You guys make it so easy to have fun, raise funds and help so many others. Thank you.

50 Days to 50 Years - Countdown

Good evening my friends and Lions. Can you belive it? In just 10 days we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the East Peterborough Lions.

And what a club it is. I still remember the first time that Lion Theresa and I decided to join the East Peterborough Lions Club in August 2015. And we have never once looked back.

We quickly joined them attending meetings, working events and watched as the club grew and grew. They grew from 7 members and today we sit at 31 Active members. And I am excited to say that we will be adding 2 more to our numbers this coming Monday Night. Every year, I set a number of members that I want to bring into the club and this year I set a target of 5 people. And I am going to do my darndest to make it there.

This club has done a total of 47 events since the 1st of July and I can't see us slowing down until we have to. We have done 1,105.5 volunteer hours and served 11, 513 people just in our own community. And I am proud to say it is due to the work of everyone in the club.

We have been called the Peterborough East Club, the East City Lions and the East Lions Club. Our legal club name is the Peterborough East Peterborough Lions Club but that is too much of a mouthful. The name came from when the Peterborough Lions and this club seperated almost 50 years ago and the club moved to Donwood which is EAST of PETERBOROUGH. And that is how the name came to be. However, we go by the EAST PETERBOROUGH LIONS CLUB and even though we have had many discussion to change the name of the club we still remain proudly, the EAST PETERBOROUGH LIONS CLUB.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our celebration where we can answer all your questions and brag about who we are and what we have accomplished in just 50 short years!
