Rooting is a foraging behavior where wild pigs use their powerful snouts to dig, push, and turn over soil in search of food such as roots, tubers, and insects.

What starts as a search for food can leave lasting impacts on ecosystems. Wild pig rooting disturbs soil, damages habitats, and can affect both wildlife and agriculture.

‘Wild pigs’ is a catch-all term for any pig not within an enclosed area, including wild boar, escaped domestic pigs, and their hybrids. If you see a wild pig, take a picture, note your location, and email [email protected] or call the Invading Species Hotline at 1-800-563-7711.

If you were issued an elk tag this season, your mandatory hunter report must be submitted by October 18, 2026, whether you hunted or harvested an elk or not.

The Algoma Fish & Game Club , an OFAH Zone D club, wrapped up the fishing season with a fun-filled day of fishing, learning, and making memories at the annual FREE Fall Kids Fishing Day at Kinsmen Park Pond, just north of Sault Ste. Marie.

The event gave local kids an opportunity to try fishing, including many who were holding a fishing rod for the very first time. The club provided all of the fishing rods and bait, and the kids had plenty of opportunities to try jigging and fishing throughout the day.

Along with fishing, participants learned about fish cleaning and filleting, fish conservation, and the importance of preventing the spread of invasive species in our region. They also had the chance to learn and practice casting techniques and take part in archery.
