Centretown Churches

Centretown Churches CCSAC, currently composed of 22 member churches of various Christian denominations, has been working since 1967 to assist people in Centretown, Ottawa.

The Centretown Churches Social Action Committee (CCSAC) is currently comprised of twenty-two member churches. Its mission is to "unite Christians of all denominations through joint participation in social projects and prayers." CCSAC was started in 1967 by nine churches to respond to social needs in the Centretown area. Since then, CCSAC has undertaken many initiatives on behalf of the poor and is

olated in our community. CCSAC’s mandate also includes advocacy for social justice, especially for issues relating to poverty. CCSAC’s purpose is to unite our member churches in social action and prayer. The philosophy that guides our actions is based on Christian principles: service to others, respect and tolerance for those we serve, along with sympathy with sometimes deepens into empathy; humility about our service; and stewardship of the resources provided for us. These principles guide all CCSAC representatives (volunteers who work directly with clients, our two Coordinators, our committee representatives).

Our Centretown Community Food Centre does amazing work with just a couple paid Staff and a whole lot of most wonderful volunteers (probably around 50!) We could never do the work we do without our volunteers so we truly appreciate their commitment to helping those around us that are facing food insecurity.

What if our everyday spaces could help feed our communities? In this participatory workshop, we’ll draw on our lived experiences to explore how food is accessed in our community. We’ll use art, storytelling, and creativity to reimagine a local space and design what it could become: a place for growing, sharing, and gathering. We’ll also talk about how to turn these ideas into real changes through local planning and development processes.

Join us and City of All Women Initiative (CAWI) on May 28th from 11:00am to 1:30pm for art making, storytelling and connection!
