Why donate to charity in your Will?

Making a difference matters to you. Giving back is part of who you are. Now, what if there were a way to do more for the causes you care about without taking away from what you or your family need?

Make a big donation, without using money you need now.
You can still provide for family in the future.
A smart way to give – there are tax benefits!
Keep fueling progress for causes that matter.

On Friday, Sept. 18th, IWSO was delighted to participate in Carleton University's School of Social Work Agency Fair.

The Fair provided an opportunity for organizations to showcase their work, educate social work students about the array of services and efforts taking place in the community, and meet with students who are looking for a practicum setting for winter, summer, and fall 2027.

It was inspiring to see the student engagement and excitement for the upcoming year and what it will hold.

IWSO was happy to be included and we are excited to see what the future will hold for all who attended.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, IWSO offices are closed as we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities across Canada.

This day is an opportunity to listen, learn, remember, and reflect on the devastating and ongoing impacts of the residential school system, colonialism, and systemic discrimination experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. It is also a call to action to deepen our understanding of Indigenous history and to support the ongoing work of truth, healing, justice, and reconciliation.

At IWSO, we recognize that reconciliation requires all of us to learn, acknowledge the past, challenge ongoing inequities, and build a more inclusive and respectful Canada.

Please note: Our Language Interpretation Services remain available today through our 24-hour hotline:

📞 613-729-1393
📞 Toll-free: 1-866-859-8182

Today and every day, we honour the truth and commit to reconciliation.

One of the smartest ways to give may already be in your retirement plan.

Did you know you can name a charity as a beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF?

By naming Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) as a beneficiary, you can:

✨ Keep what you and your family need for retirement
✨ Make a meaningful difference with what remains
✨ Potentially offset taxes that would otherwise apply to your RRSP/RRIF at death
✨ Set it up quickly, flexibly, and at no cost

It’s a simple way to create a lasting legacy for immigrant and racialized women and their children in our community.

Want to learn more? The Will Power campaign has a helpful tool that walks you through the process in less than five minutes.

👉 Take a few minutes to explore this smart and meaningful way to give.
