This weekend at the Canadian War Museum, Cell Therapy Transplant Canada recognized the exceptional achievements of the Stem Cell Patient Fund in supporting stem cell therapy patients from across Canada receiving care at The Ottawa Hospital. As Founder of the Fund, I was honoured to accept the CTTC Inaugural Community Impact Award on behalf of all donors and benefactors. Thanks to all our donors for the amazing support!

Ce week-end, au Musée canadien de la guerre, Cell Therapy Transplant Canada (CTTC) a souligné les réalisations exceptionnelles du Fonds pour les patients greffés de cellules souches pour son soutien aux patients de toutes les régions du Canada recevant des soins à L’Hôpital d’Ottawa. En tant que fondateur du Fonds, j’ai eu l’honneur d’accepter le premier Prix d'impact communautaire de la CTTC au nom de tous les donateurs et bienfaiteurs. Here are a few examples of how the Stem Cell Patient Fund helped patients in need in 2025:

An elderly patient could not afford the cost of travel to Ottawa for their stem cell transplant. Without a private pension plan, and borrowing from family for their multiple therapy-related expenses not covered by public insurance, travel was unaffordable. We were glad to cover the cost of air travel.

A young patient receiving a stem cell transplant was facing permanent infertility resulting from therapy. The family wished to cryopreserve some of the patient’s reproductive cells with the hope that they may have a family in the future. The family did not have the financial resources to cover this expense. The Stem Cell Patient Fund stepped in and paid for cryopreservation.

A patient could not afford the cost of accommodations with in-house nursing care following their stem cell transplant. The Fund helped with this expense and enabled them to receive convalescence care.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our mission of making stem cell therapy more accessible. Your support will continue to grow the Fund and increase its impact on the patient community.
