โ€œVolunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.โ€

Weโ€™re eternally grateful for your work โ€” we wouldnโ€™t be where we are today without your ongoing support.

Today, OZCF observed Maidyozarem Gahambar (as per the Fasli Calendar) - the first of the six seasonal Gahambars in the Zoroastrian calendar. This festival honors the creation of the sky and is traditionally held between April 30 and May 4.

Todayโ€™s prayers were dedicated to the memory of Er. Dr. Jehan Bagli, a distinguished leader in the Zoroastrian community who passed away in Toronto, on April 6, 2026 at the age of 97.

Prayers were led by Er Nozer Kotwal, Er Jamshed Dhabar, Er Jal Panthaky, Er Xerxes Madan and Er Nekzad Ilava

This was followed by a simple Dhansak lunch

If you would like to sponsor a Gambhar, please contact Er Nozer Kotwal: [email protected]

The Government of Ontario ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ honours more than 5,000 community leaders and volunteers through the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards ๐ŸŒŸ. This annual initiative celebrates both youth and adult volunteers for their outstanding contributions and dedicated service to organizations such as non-profits, schools ๐Ÿซ, community centres, hospitals, libraries, and community associations ๐Ÿค.

The OZCF Board was proud to nominate seven individuals for the 2026 volunteer awards ๐Ÿ™Œ. Nominees were recognized at 30 local ceremonies held across the province between spring and fall 2026, where recipients received a personalized certificate and a lapel pin indicating their years of service.

On behalf of the Ontario Zoroastrian Community Foundation, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Ervad Dr. Jehan Bagli, someone so truly special.

His contributions to our community are immeasurably. As the driving force behind the building of the Atash Kadeh in Oakville, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. His vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment have given our community a sacred place that will forever stand as a testament to his lifeโ€™s work.

A distinguished scientist and a respected authority on Zoroastrian religion, customs, and rituals, he shared his knowledge with humility and passion. His wisdom guided many, and his presence brought comfort, clarity, and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed- not only by his family and close friends, but by the entire community whose lives he touched in so many meaningful ways. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may you find strength and solace in the love and memories you shared.
