Camp Maple Leaf currently operates three overnight camps for children. CML Jacob Island, our flagship camp, is located in the Kawartha region of Ontario. Our second location, CML Greenhill Lake, opened in 2022 and is located just west of Fredericton New Brunswick. Our newest & third camp location, CML Sylvan Lake, is located in central Alberta. At each location, Camp Maple Leaf upholds a strong cu

lture of inclusion and belonging, supports and celebrates our campers for who they are, and fosters friendships that follow them home. Established in 1955 by the Canadian council of War Veterans Associations, Camp Maple Leaf has served thousands of children over its 65 year history. Our vision is that children with unique life challenges have camp friends who share their experiences and help them thrive.

A big THANK YOU to the Royal Canadian Air Force 81st Construction Engineering Flight from 8 Wing Trenton, who donated their time and expertise to help fix up some of the facilities at our Jacob Island location! We are grateful for their help every year in ensuring that the camp is safe and in working order before campers arrive.

During Pride Month, we celebrate our LGBTQIA2S+ campers, camper families, staff, and volunteers and reaffirm our commitment to creating a camp community where everyone feels welcome.

At Camp Maple Leaf, we strive to provide a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, respected, and valued. Campers and staff are encouraged to be true to themselves and to be allies to one another.

We are proud to be a place where every child can feel they belong.

June is National Indigenous History Month.

At Camp Maple Leaf, we recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. We acknowledge that our camps operate on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples whose stewardship of these lands continues today.

As we reflect during National Indigenous History Month, we recognize both the importance of learning from the past and the work still ahead on the path toward truth and reconciliation. We encourage everyone to take time to learn more about the history, cultures, and diversity of Indigenous Peoples and communities across Canada.

Camp Maple Leaf announces some major changes for the upcoming summer season. April Young, “Calypso” our longtime Director and the person most responsible for the growth and success of Camp Maple Leaf has decided to move to British Columbia to be closer to her daughter Lily. Calypso leaves behind a legacy of summer camp fun and memories for thousands of children facing unique life challenges. Calypso remains as a consultant to our new Director Team to ensure a smooth transition as Camp is fast approaching.

Our new Director Team is, in fact, not new at all! Tess Rowley, “Mako” and Ellen Scott “Chansey” will be our Co-Directors for the 2026 summer season.

Chansey is a “lifer” at Camp Maple Leaf. She has been a camper, counsellor and has held several different senior staff leadership positions at Camp over the past 10 years. She is a teacher and will be teaching grade 7 and 8 starting in September.

Mako has directed Camp Maple Leaf in New Brunswick for the past 3 summers. This summer, Mako will be directing our Camp Maple Leaf programs in New Brunswick, Alberta and British Columbia. When not on the road, Mako will be with Chansey on Jacob Island making sure that campers and staff have another safe and memorable summer at Camp Maple Leaf.

We cannot put into words the legacy Calypso leaves. Her endless energy, both at camp with campers and staff as well as the thousands of hours she has spent spreading the word about, and developing programs for, our children with unique life challenges has made Maple Leaf what it is today.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, our staff, volunteers, parents and campers and all who have been part of Camp Maple Leaf for the past 10 years, THANK YOU Calypso. You have made all of our lives better.

This week is Facial Equality Week! At Camp Maple Leaf, we strive to provide support to the Facial Difference community in recognizing the unique challenges they face every day. From July 26-31 during Camp Fun-4-All, we offer Camp Trailblazers - a fun and exciting camp program at our Jacob Island, Ontario location specifically for children with facial differences and their siblings. It’s a chance for these children to experience camp without the discrimination that they often face, and learn that they are no different than the other diverse kids who attend camp. Campers learn strategies to help them with their unique challenges and gain resilience along the way. If you have a child with a facial difference, or know someone who does, you can learn more and register on our website. Apply now before spots fill up.

For the month of April, the team from Camp Maple Leaf covered as many events as they could cram in from coast to coast! It was so thrilling for all of us to connect with our campers and camper families from across the country, as well as all of our friends at the bases!

As for space still available in our military sessions, here is where we are at so you can plan and share accordingly:
• Alberta is now on a waitlist,
• BC is half full
• handful of spots left in New Brunswick
• 15 spots left in our third Military session which is open to children from Ontario and across Canada.
• A handful of spots in kids of heroes
• Two spots in our bereavement session

We still have a few flights available to campers from any province that we do not offer a satellite camp at during National Military Week Aug 16-23. Apply now on our website!

What an honour it was to be surrounded by such a vibrant, supportive community. The message of the evening was clear: we are stronger together, and this community shows up for one another in extraordinary ways.

To be among the charities receiving support from this generous Dream Home donation was truly humbling. It was made even more special to have our very own Rowan Hanes, Camp name Cario, present the cheque to Camp Maple Leaf. Seeing him now officially part of this incredible group, and witnessing firsthand how far this donation will go, meant so much.

We are deeply inspired and grateful for the opportunity to give children from our community partners the summer of their lives at camp.

It was also such a joy to reconnect with old friends and make many new ones.
Thank you, Kinsmen of Kingston, for a wonderful evening, a generous gift, and for helping make this summer unforgettable for some truly amazing kids.
