Belonging Starts with Participation – Your Membership. Your Voice. Our Community.

At CVIMS, belonging is at the heart of what we do.

Every day, we work alongside newcomers, community members, partners, volunteers, and supporters to help build a community where people feel welcomed, connected, and able to participate fully. Membership is another way of putting that sense of belonging into action.

Being a CVIMS member means choosing to be part of the community that stands behind our work. It creates a meaningful connection between our organization and the people who believe in its purpose—and gives members an opportunity to participate in the life and governance of CVIMS.

The Annual General Meeting—or AGM—is one of the key moments when membership comes to life.

Join the CVIMS Community!

Our Annual General Meeting & Community Gathering will take place:

🗓 Monday, September 28, 2026
⏰5:00–7:00 PM
📍CVIMS Main Office, #101–319 Selby Street, Rooms 9/10

Online participation will also be available via Zoom.

The AGM will take place from 5:00–5:45 PM, followed by an opportunity from 5:45–7:00 PM to mingle with CVIMS Board members, staff, community partners, and friends.

Because membership isn't simply about belonging to an organization. It's about taking part in it.

Voting: CVIMS members in good standing who have been members for at least 30 days are eligible to vote. Guests and community partners are warmly welcome to attend.

Meaningful employment is about more than securing a job—it is about building confidence, creating stability, and establishing a sense of purpose in a new community. Throughout the year, the employment team supports newcomers at every stage of their career journey by providing practical guidance, individualized coaching, and opportunities to connect with employers and industry partners.

Serving clients with a wide range of immigration pathways and career goals, the team recognizes that each person's employment journey is unique. Through one-on-one career planning, résumé and interview preparation, workshops, referrals, and ongoing encouragement, clients gain the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate Canada's labour market and make informed decisions about their professional futures.

Language is more than communication—it is the foundation for independence, confidence, and belonging.

KJ participated in CVIMS' Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program to improve his English communication skills as a newcomer to Canada.

During the program, KJ also practiced conversational English with a dedicated CVIMS volunteer, Pam. These one-on-one sessions helped him build confidence in speaking English and laid a strong foundation for settling and growing in Nanaimo.

Today, KJ proudly serves the Nanaimo community as a bus driver with the City of Nanaimo.

One more Night Market to go!

Tomorrow, Thursday, marks the final Night Market of the season, and what a wonderful summer it has been! CVIMS has loved being part of this vibrant community event and proudly sponsoring the Around the World Tent, where cultures, traditions, and community came together throughout the season.

We hope you had a chance to stop by the tent, say hello to our teams, enjoy the celebrations, and experience some of the incredible diversity that makes our community so special.

A heartfelt thank you to the Night Market organizers, performers, participants, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this season such a success. And thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect with us!

Congratulations to our Digital Literacy Cohort 2 graduates!

We were excited to celebrate another group of participants who have successfully completed CVIMS’ Digital Literacy Program!

Throughout the program, participants built practical skills and confidence using technology—from navigating smartphones, tablets, and computers to accessing email, online services, and other digital tools that are increasingly important in everyday life.

A big congratulations to all of our graduates for their hard work, curiosity, and willingness to learn. We also extend a heartfelt thank you to our Digital Literacy team and mentors for creating a supportive and welcoming learning environment.

Finally, thank you to the City of Nanaimo Local Government for funding this program and helping CVIMS create opportunities for seniors to build digital confidence, make connections and participate more fully in an increasingly digital world.

Here’s to new skills, greater confidence, and staying connected in our digital world!
