Celebrating Entrepreneurs This Small Business Month: Shihad Usman Naufel, Owner & Founder of RenoSands Contracting, LEAP Cohort 2 - "Powerhouse" Alumnus

Success is measured not only by business growth, but also by the impact we leave on the communities around us. As part of our Small Business Week celebrations, we're highlighting Shihad Usman Naufel, Owner & Founder of RenoSands Contracting and a graduate of LEAP for Newcomers Cohort 2 "Powerhouse."

Shihad's journey reflects the power of entrepreneurship to create opportunities, foster belonging, and give back to the communities that support us. "As a newcomer to Canada and first-time entrepreneur, I founded RenoSands Contracting to meet growing demand in the construction sector.

LEAP sharpened my business mindset and gave me the confident to operate successfully in a new country. I'm committed to giving back to the community that welcomed me, through quality work, fair hiring, and volunteer initiatives, and I'm excited to build relationships that create lasting social impact."

🌟 We Did It! Vancouver Island Partnership (VIP) - Settlement Working Group 🌟

Small Business Month Spotlight: Hila Tuil, Co-Founder & Operations Director of Sketch Lab, LEAP Cohort 3 "Dynamo" Alumna ‌

October is a time to recognize the small businesses, entrepreneurs, and innovators whose passion and determination help strengthen communities across British Columbia. During Small Business Week (October 19-25), we celebrate the individuals behind these businesses and their contributions to local economic growth and innovation.

This month, we're also shining a spotlight on one of the success stories from our Local Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program (LEAP) for Newcomers, Cohort 3, "Dynamo", an all-women cohort. We are thrilled to feature Hila Tuil, Co-Founder & Operations Director of Sketch Lab, whose entrepreneurial journey reflects the resilience, creativity, and ambition that define so many small business owners across BC.

Building Safer Workplaces Through Knowledge and Awareness!

CVIMS successfully delivered a Workplace Health & Safety Workshop as part of the Train the Trainer Project in collaboration with AMSSA and WorkSafeBC.

The workshop empowered participants with practical knowledge about workplace safety, workers’ rights and responsibilities, hazard prevention, and reporting workplace injuries to WorkSafeBC.

Together, we are strengthening awareness, building confidence, and promoting safer, healthier, and more inclusive workplaces for everyone.

CVIMS was pleased to be one of the sponsors for the 2026 Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA) Summit, a wonderful opportunity to connect with community leaders, entrepreneurs, local businesses, and organizations from across Vancouver Island.

The summit provided a valuable space to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore opportunities for collaboration and economic growth in our region.

At CVIMS, we recognize the important role newcomers play in strengthening our local economy, bringing diverse perspectives, valuable skills, and entrepreneurial ideas to our communities.
