The upcoming Peel Biodiversity and Climate Change Strategy, developed by Peel Region , Credit Valley Conservation and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority , recognizes that protecting and restoring natural systems is essential for improving water quality, reducing flood risks, supporting biodiversity, and helping communities adapt to a changing climate.

Healthy forests, wetlands, rivers, and green spaces do more than support wildlife. They help protect the water we all depend on while building more resilient communities.

As we mark Water Week 2026, we're encouraged by the collaborative work underway through the Peel Biodiversity and Climate Change Strategy. Developed by Region of Peel, CVC, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, the strategy recognizes that protecting and restoring natural systems is essential for improving water quality, reducing flood risks, supporting biodiversity, and helping communities adapt to a changing climate.

At the CVC Foundation, we help make this work possible through community investment in conservation. Donations support projects that restore habitats, enhance watershed health, connect people with nature, and build long-term environmental resilience.

World Water Week

A vision becomes reality when we invest in it together. 🌿

Today, Credit Valley Conservation celebrated the official opening of a new 40-metre pedestrian bridge on the Tranmer property, part of Upper Credit Conservation Area — a significant milestone for the Credit Valley Trail.

This key river crossing improves connectivity and brings us one step closer to the vision of a continuous 100-kilometre trail through the Credit River Valley, linking Island Lake Conservation Area in the Town of Orangeville with communities to the south of the Town of Caledon.

For us at the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation, moments like today are a powerful reminder of why philanthropic investment matters. The Credit Valley Trail is an ambitious vision — one that requires long-term commitment, collaboration and investment. Since 2020, CVCF has been working toward a $10-million campaign to fully connect the Credit Valley Trail, and thanks to generous corporate and community support, 65% of our goal has now been raised.

This bridge represents what is possible when partners come together around a shared vision. It connects more than a trail — it connects people to nature, communities to one another, and future generations to the Credit River Valley.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada, Ontario Government and the Dufferin County for their significant contributions and partnership in making this project possible. And thank you to the community leaders, Indigenous partners, supporters and trail champions who continue to believe in the vision.

There is more to build. More connections to make. And more of the Credit Valley Trail still to come.

Some partnerships stand the test of time and create meaningful change for communities and the environment. Our partnership with UPS Canada is one of them.

For more than a decade, UPS has been a committed partner of Credit Valley Conservation and Credit Valley Conservation Foundation, investing nearly $500,000 to help advance conservation and strengthen communities across the Credit River Watershed.

And behind this partnership is Wilna, one of the biggest champions. She doesn’t just support our work-actively engages with our team and community. She joins us at events, celebrates our successes and, through her role at UPS, helps connect the company’s support to meaningful youth and community programming.

This year, through support from the UPS Foundation, UPS is continuing its commitment to creating stronger, more resilient communities with a $105,315 contribution, supporting conservation initiatives that help young people and communities connect with nature, plant native trees and shrubs, learn about the watershed and contribute to its future. UPS is also supporting the 19th Annual Conservation & Awards Gala this year, helping us bring together the people, organizations and leaders who are advancing conservation across the watershed.

👏 Well done! The Canada Summer Jobs Program is such a great opportunity to join youth with important and meaningful conservation work. This work is essential to help maintain our green spaces and protecting nature for future generations.

🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬 When we create opportunities for young people to gain meaningful work experience, the benefits extend far beyond the workplace. Communities gain future leaders, and local natural spaces benefit from the energy, passion and skills they bring.

Today, we were delighted to welcome Charles Sousa, MP for Mississauga-Lakeshore, to Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area to meet our Canada Summer Jobs team and hear about their experiences working at Credit Valley Conservation.

Through the Canada Summer Jobs program, young professionals are gaining valuable hands-on experience while helping maintain parks and trails, welcome visitors and support conservation area operations. Their contributions help create safe, accessible and enjoyable experiences for everyone who visits our parks and conservation areas.

🌱 As Conservation Parks Crew Member Shannon Wilson shared:

"My summer at CVC has given me valuable hands-on experience and helped me apply some of what I learned in school to real-world conservation work. ... It has also given me a greater appreciation for the value of CVC and the role it plays in protecting natural areas and connecting people with the environment."

These opportunities help youth build skills, explore career pathways and make meaningful contributions to the communities and natural spaces they care about.

The return of river otters is more than a wonderful wildlife story. It’s a reminder of what can happen when we protect natural spaces, restore habitats and invest in healthy watersheds.

At CVCF, we believe conservation is also about connection. We have a responsibility to help our communities understand the incredible life that thrives around us—and the habitats, wetlands and waterways that make it possible.

Because when people can see, understand and experience the life around them, they have a greater opportunity to become its stewards.

The comeback of the river otter gives us hope. It also reminds us that conservation is a long-term commitment.

🌿 Investing in the future of the Elora Cataract Trailway

A big thank you to Trans Canada Trail for its generous $45,000 contribution through the Trail Catalyst Fund.

This funding will support an engineering study led by Credit Valley Conservation to design the replacement of two aging culverts along the CVC-owned and managed section of the Elora Cataract Trailway. The study will help us plan and construct critical trail improvements, ensuring this important trail continues to connect communities with nature for years to come.

Trails do more than take us from one place to another. They help people connect with nature, explore local landscapes and build stronger communities.

We're grateful for this investment in safer, more resilient and connected trails that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

🚲 Ride to Remember - Celebrating Community, Trails and Connection to Nature

Our friends at the Elora Cataract Trailway Association are hosting the inaugural Ride to Remember and Renew on September 19, 2026 — a community cycling event bringing people together to celebrate the importance of trails and the connections they create.

By participating in this event, riders and supporters will help advance important trail improvements. A portion of proceeds will support critical upgrades to aging trail infrastructure along the Elora Cataract Trailway, a collaborative effort between Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF), and the Elora Cataract Trailway Association to enhance safety, accessibility, and long-term enjoyment of the Elora Cataract Trailway.

Through our collaboration with ECTA, we share a commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect with nature, enjoy outdoor spaces, and support healthy, resilient communities.

Events like this demonstrate the power of community stewardship and what can be achieved when organizations and community members come together to care for the natural spaces we all value.
