When you think of food you can get at a food bank, maybe you think of canned tuna or boxes of pasta. Or maybe you already know that, thanks to generous donations, we’re able to provide neighbours with fresh food like milk, eggs, lettuce, and bananas.
But thanks to our ReclaimFRESH Food Rescue Program, we’re able to provide all kinds of unique fruits and vegetables too – like bitter melon, bottle gourd, curry leaves, and okra!
In a city as diverse as Mississauga, the food we provide to food bank visitors through our network of 60+ food programs should be just as diverse and reflect the range of cultural backgrounds in our community. Being able to provide bitter melon for our Filipino neighbours’ Ginisang Ampalaya, or curry leaves for chutneys, or okra for a tasty Jamaican gumbo means that our neighbours can make dishes that feel like home. 🥘🌎❤️
