Ground Search and Rescue organization in Miramichi, New Brunswick Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue (MGSAR) is 1 of 10 search teams in New Brunswick, Canada.

We have not only the largest jurisdiction (Northumberland County) in the province but also the least populated and extremely diverse in terrain. We are continuously recruiting and always training in everything from; orienteering, survival, tracking, first aid and CPR to human behaviour. We are the silent heroes. We are the unpaid professionals.

AT THE MAYOR'S BBQ

MGSAR took part in the annual Mayor’s BBQ at Elm Park today, connecting with the community and sharing the team’s mission as Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue.

Volunteers demonstrated Project Lifesaver equipment, explaining how the program supports vulnerable individuals who may wander. Throughout the day, members enjoyed warm conversations, friendly faces, and a strong sense of community spirit.

PLAY BALL !

MGSAR supported the 2026 Men’s National Baseball Championships held in Chatham with a five‑day fundraising effort, coordinating all parking operations throughout the event.

This major initiative showcased the dedication and teamwork of our volunteers, who ensured smooth logistics while raising essential funds for our organization.

MGSAR IS RECRUITING Sept 7, 2026

A MGSAR Information Session will be held Monday Sept 7 at 18h00 at our Training Centre at 2 Walsh Av in Chatham near the SPCA.

Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue has had an exceptionally busy year, and we’re looking for new volunteers to join our team. No prior search and rescue experience is needed—we’ll provide all the training you require to become a skilled and confident responder.

What we ask for is commitment: some Wednesday evening training, some Saturday practice sessions, 50 hours per year overall attendance and the readiness to answer the call when emergencies arise—whether day or night, in any kind of weather.

Joining MGSAR means more than learning technical skills. It’s about teamwork, resilience, and serving your community when it matters most. You’ll gain hands on experience, build lasting friendships, and play a vital role in helping others during critical situations.

If you’re eager to challenge yourself, grow with a dedicated team, and make a meaningful difference, this is your opportunity. Step forward—your community needs you, MGSAR needs you. All training provided by MGSAR.

MGSAR BOOT CAMP

The Boot Camp is a new training initiative led by Dean and Mike, two veteran searchers whose extensive field experience will help sharpen core MGSAR skills.

Sessions run from dusk to dark around the MGSAR Training Centre, creating realistic low‑light search conditions. Training is delivered in groups of ten to ensure hands‑on practice and focused coaching.

This first Boot Camp reinforces essential search techniques and includes a full extrication component, giving members the chance to apply fundamentals under pressure while working as an effective, coordinated team. The Boot Camp will be offered every month to support ongoing skill development.

A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION

On July 18, Tri‑County Ground Search and Rescue (Adam Kane) offered a token of appreciation to Margaret Glidden and Jerry McKenna, two dedicated MGSAR members in recognition of their meaningful involvement with SARNIF.

Their commitment, professionalism, and willingness to support inter‑agency collaboration have strengthened search‑and‑rescue capacity across the region. By contributing their time, expertise, and leadership, they have helped advance shared training standards, improve operational readiness, and reinforce the cooperative spirit that defines New Brunswick’s SAR community.

MGSAR FUNDRAISING WITH THE LIONS CLUB

The Douglastown Lions Club was hosting a full community fun day at Maurie’s in support of Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue Sunday July 26, 2026.

Families and neighbours are invited to enjoy activities, connect with volunteers, and learn essential outdoor safety skills. The event features engaging presentations on Hug‑A‑Tree and Survive, a nationally recognized program that teaches children how to stay safe and be found quickly if they become lost outdoors.

It’s a chance to have fun while supporting the dedicated search teams who serve the Miramichi region.
