The first On-the-Land Pedagogy gathering in Ugpi’ganjig (Eel River Bar) brought together fifteen Early Years Educators for a learning experience rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being. 🌿💚

Through shared teachings, cultural activities, reflection, and hands-on learning on the land, participants explored how land-based learning supports children’s holistic development while strengthening connections to language, culture, identity, and community.

Wela’lieg to the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators, and participants who helped make this gathering possible and supported a strong foundation for future land-based learning in First Nations Early Learning and Child Care.

NSMTC summer intern Mariah Ward recently attended the Indigenous Women in STEM Workshop at McMaster University.

“It was an honour to attend this workshop. Seeing so many young Indigenous women engaged, curious, and excited about STEM was inspiring and highlighted the importance of creating opportunities like these.”

This summer, Mariah will bring that learning home by helping lead STEM camps for Indigenous youth in our Member Nation communities. As NSMTC continues work in energy, environmental stewardship, and nuclear conversations, experiences like this help Indigenous youth explore STEM and see where it can take them.
