Today, we celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island. National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to honour the strength, resilience, and wisdom of Indigenous communities, while recognizing the importance of preserving and sharing our cultures for future generations.

At Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Services, we are proud to support the wellness of our communities through culturally grounded care, connection, and healing. We encourage everyone to take time today to celebrate, learn, reflect, and participate in the many events taking place throughout our communities.

Please note that in observance of National Indigenous Peoples Day, our office will be closed tomorrow, Monday June 22, 2026. We will reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, June 23.

Wela’lioq and Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!

We understand that navigating settlement applications and paperwork can sometimes feel overwhelming, and you do not have to go through it alone.

Our Resolution Health Support Worker can help answer questions, provide guidance through the claims process, refer clients to Mawlugutinej Mental Health Clinicians for mental health support, and connect individuals and families with additional resources as needed.

If you or someone you know may be eligible and would like support, please reach out to the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team or Kara Martin for more information.

Please help is in welcoming Jerry Clarke to the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team as one of our Mental Health Clinicians!

Jerry Clarke joins the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team with more than 30 years of experience supporting youth, adults, families, and communities across New Brunswick. His work has consistently centred on culturally safe, trauma informed, and socially just practice, with a strong commitment to serving Indigenous children, youth, and families.

Most recently, Jerry served as one of two Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) First Nation Coordinators for the Province of New Brunswick. In this role, he helped to strengthen culturally safe government services for Indigenous children, youth, and families. His responsibilities included supporting the development of First Nation–led Child and Youth Cultural and Clinical Teams, improving service continuity across communities, and helping establish permanent Indigenous representation within ISD governance structures. Jerry also collaborated with Wabanaki Elders and Indigenous professionals on a Cultural Safety Certification program and contributed to the creation of guidelines for Culturally Responsive Practice for provincial employees. This work helped ensure access to Elders, ceremony, and cultural items for Indigenous youth who might otherwise not have access.

Before his leadership roles in ISD, Jerry spent many years supporting youth and families through positions in probation services, intervention work, and group home care. Across all these roles, he has remained committed to strengths based, culturally responsive, and relationship centred practice.

Jerry holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, is honoured to continue serving Mi’kmaq communities as part of the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team and looks forward to walking alongside community members on their healing journeys.

Wela'lin Jerry and welcome to the team!

Everyone in our community deserves happiness and forgiveness. None of us are perfect.

We would ask that anyone who joins us in this journey enter with an open mind and an open heart. There are many different ways to deal with all the different thoughts, feelings, and emotions that make up the human experience. It is important that we respect eachother and provide eachother support because we all depend on one another. When one of us feels pain, it is up to our community to aid our brother through his hardship.

Many men are brought up to bottle up their emotions and bear the suffering alone. It is unhealthy and can torment the soul. We are driven to create an environment where men can be tender, loving, and caring for their brother. We are stronger together and will be better fathers, sons, husbands, and brothers because of it.

This isn't just about us, its about our entire community. We need to build up our own mental strength and capacity to love so that we can create the communities we dream of.

This Nurses Week, Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible nurses who continue to support the health and wellness of our communities every day.

A special thank you to Kelly Whelan, Executive Director, and Stephanie LeClair, Mental Health Clinician, for the compassion, leadership, advocacy, and care they bring to the people we serve. Your dedication to supporting not only physical health, but also mental wellness, healing, and culturally safe care, continues to make a meaningful difference throughout our communities.

Nursing goes far beyond medical care. Nurses are often the people who listen during difficult moments, provide comfort during times of grief and crisis, and help individuals and families navigate trauma, mental health struggles, addictions, and life’s challenges with understanding and kindness. The work you both do helps create safer, healthier, and more supported communities.

At Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness, we recognize the importance of mental health and counselling supports, and we remain committed to ensuring community members know they are never alone. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, and compassionate care can have a lasting impact.

Wela’lioq Kelly and Stephanie, and wela’lioq to all nurses for the care, strength, and heart you bring into this work every single day!

Today, the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team had the honour of travelling to Fredericton to take part in the MMIWP Walk in recognition of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People.

This walk is more than just a gathering, it is a time to stand together in remembrance, to honour the lives that were taken too soon, and to uplift the voices of families, survivors, and communities who continue to carry this pain. Each step we took today was for those who are missing, those we have lost, and for the ongoing call for justice, safety, and change.

As a team, it meant a lot to be present, to listen, and to show our support alongside others who are walking this same path. This work is deeply connected to mental wellness in our communities, and we remain committed to creating safe spaces, supporting healing, and advocating for our people.

We carry today with us and will continue to do this work with intention, compassion, and strength.

Today, Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness stands in remembrance and solidarity for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. We honour the lives that were taken too soon, and we hold space for the families and communities who continue to carry this grief every single day.

MMIWG is not just an awareness day, it is a call to action. It is a reminder that the violence our people face is ongoing, and that we all have a role in creating safer, stronger, and more supportive communities. Our women, girls, and Two-Spirit people are sacred. They deserve to be protected, valued, and uplifted.

We wear red to say you are seen, you are loved, and you are never forgotten. We will continue to speak your names and stand for justice.

If this day brings up heavy feelings, please know support is available. You can reach out to the Mawlugutinej Mental Wellness Team through email, by phone or by connecting with your local health centre.

Take care of yourselves and one another today. Hold your loved ones close.
