Last month, MSC Canada was delighted to host our annual retreat for workers serving Canada’s Indigenous population. Faith Bible Camp in Manitoba provided a beautiful setting for relaxation, equipping sessions and conversations all intended to support those facing the unique challenges of this important work.

Narindra and Christiane Raharitsifa had a nice life in British Columbia. They were comfortable. Their kids had friends. They loved their local church. But they didn't doubt God's leading to move to Madagascar. The call was clear.

To hear more of their story, watch their interview on our YouTube Channel.

It is important to us at MSC to maintain the core values upon which we were founded and by which we have operated for over 80 years, while helping sending churches and their mission workers adapt to the changing world of missions. Here's our vision:

We’re here to ENGAGE – to strike up conversations, to move information that moves God’s people to pray, to spread good news about the spread of the Good News.
We’re also here to ENABLE – to make it easy to move funds to brothers and sisters at the frontlines, to train and equip, to support, serve, augment, and help however we’re able.
We’re after EACH GENERATION – not just the young guns, not just the seasoned vets, we want to see all generations shouldering the load and striving forward together.
All to IMPACT THE WORLD FOR CHRIST – lost people saved, saved people discipled to maturity, mature disciples making more disciples. The kingdom spreading, the world changed forever.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear brother and friend, Patrick Long. Patrick is now home with the Lord, leaving behind a profound legacy of faithful, thoughtful, determined service.

For nearly 30 years, Patrick was an integral part of the MSC family. Joining us in February 1990, he served faithfully in many capacities over the decades, including as Assistant to the President, Secretary, and Privacy Officer, before stepping down in the fall of 2019.

Patrick’s fingerprints remain on so many foundational areas of our work. In the 1990s, he partnered with Ken Fleming (Emmaus) and CMML to develop and found the Missionary Orientation Program (MOP), serving as one of its first instructors and helping prepare and equip new mission workers. He was also deeply involved in developing the weekly Mission Prayer Items, always ensuring that the needs of our workers were kept faithfully before the Lord and our community.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful testaments to Patrick's heart for ministry came during a difficult season of illness. While laid up recovering from a cancer diagnosis in the 1990s, Patrick was determined to continue using his time for the Lord. He taught himself HTML and built MSC’s very first website, a labour of love that brought our mission to life online.

Those who worked with him recalled his love of technology, his sharp wit and dry humour, and most of all his unrelenting love for Jesus.

We praise God for Patrick’s life, his steady wisdom, and his long-standing dedication to the Lord's work. We will miss him dearly, but we rejoice knowing he is completely in the presence of his Saviour. Please join us in praying for his loved ones during this time of loss.

Joanna and Camillo had been serving in Colombia when God called them back to Canada in 2024 to complete some immigration paperwork for Camilo as well as to work alongside the Canadian believers for a season.

Even though they are back in Canada, the Lord continues to bring many Latin Americans and other immigrants across their path. They are also serving in their local assembly. Camilo preaches on occasion (now in English as well), and they have a small group of ladies over regularly for an evangelistic Bible study. Camilo is currently employed in a local industry, and Joanna spends most of the day running after their two boys, the older of whom has recently become the sole pupil of a new homeschooling endeavour. The Lord’s mercy endures forever!

Joanna was commended from Rideau Christian Fellowship in Perth, Ontario in 2015 to serve the Lord in Colombia, in the Boyaca region. Her main focus was evangelism among women and children and supporting local churches.

Camilo was born in Colombia, where the Lord allowed another CMML missionary couple to bring the gospel to his family, and he came to know and serve the Lord from a young age.

After meeting and getting married, Joanna and Camilo’s served the Lord together mainly in the city of Tunja, teaching and discipling, where Camilo also served as an elder in the local assembly.

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
