See this commitment to combating Islamophobia from the Ontario Liberal Party. Meeting the challenge of rising Islamophobia across Ontario and Canada is a commitment that must be renewed during this time of reflection and remembrance.

We have seen mosques vandalized, Muslims intimidated, and violent threats become a troubling new norm.

As we remember Our London Family, it is time to work together to build the right plan that meets today's challenges.

Last week, as we marked the fifth anniversary of the London Terror Attack that took the lives of four members of Our London Family, the Ontario NDP, alongside community and MPP Peggy Sattler, re-announced plans to table new legislation combating Islamophobia in Ontario.

We cannot wait for another attack to happen.

We already see the rise of violent and threatening Islamophobic hate, including a recently destroyed Muslim school bus in Waterdown, ON.

See this important speech by NCCM Government Affairs Officer Fatema Abdalla on the need for more effective legislation to fight hate.

No community should live in fear. There is no room for hate anywhere in Ontario or Canada.

What happened on the streets of London, ON, five years ago should spur all leaders and community members to work together against the current rise in Islamophobia.

There is no more important time than now to turn remembrance into real action.

We are deeply disturbed by the hateful act of graffiti and vandalism targeting the Moncton Muslim Association mosque. This marks the third incident affecting this mosque in recent months, raising serious concerns about the safety, security, and well-being of the local Muslim community.

We call on elected leaders, public officials, and all Canadians to unequivocally denounce this incident, condemn Islamophobia in all its forms, and take meaningful action to address the growing threat of anti-Muslim hate.

No one should have to fear for their safety because of their faith. We must stand united against hatred and work together to ensure that all places of worship remain safe, welcoming, and protected spaces for everyone.

This week, York University's Islamophobia Hub published an important pilot study on the working conditions of Muslims in Canada.

Delving deeply into the state of "Working while Muslim" in Canada, the report shows and analyzes wage gaps, levels of poverty, and unemployment gaps between Muslims in Canada vs. the larger population.

This is an important snapshot into the state of labour not just for Muslims in Canada, but with respect to the entire country during a time of economic uncertainty and rapid technological change.

That a sitting MP would choose Arab Heritage Month to deliver a speech recycling vast generalizations and propaganda about Arab history is disappointing for so many reasons.

Beyond presenting Arab history and society through a number of sweeping and inaccurate tropes, Mr. Majumder then lavishes praise on an authoritarian government in the Middle East that has backed mass violence in several conflicts around the world.

Arab Heritage Month is supposed to be a non-sectarian celebration of Arab culture. It is a time for learning and bridge building, not the recycling of old debunked clichés about Arab history.

This weekend, we reach the fifth anniversary of the London terror attack that killed four members of the same Muslim family on the streets of London, ON.

It is a time for remembrance, but also active reflections and renewed commitment.

Please join the YCCI and other members of the London community to mark this occasion.

Violent Islamophobia is on the rise in Canada. We know what it looks like. We know what it can do. On this fifth anniversary of the loss of Our London Family, let us recommit to building a plan that meets this challenge.

It is time to face violent Islamophobia in all its forms. It is time for real action.

Please see this statement from MP Aslam Rana regarding the attack of a school bus from an Islamic school in Hamilton.

The targeting of a school bus that services Muslim children during a time of rising Islamophobic violence is alarming to the highest degree. While we cannot confirm the motivation behind this attack at this time, and we will wait until the police have a final determination, it is extremely concerning.

We call on all leaders to denounce what happened, and to work with community members to stem this tide of Islamophobia.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister launched Canada’s new Ministerial Advisory Council on Rights, Equality, and Inclusion as a response to combat rising hate.

Canada is the leading G-7 country when it comes to Islamophobia motivated murders in the past decade. No other minority religious community in Canada has faced this kind of hate motivated murder in recent memory. Tackling such a problem means taking on hate across the board and working with all communities to build a real plan forward, including on the crisis of Islamophobia.

We will be watching the developments of this council carefully in hopes that it will meet its mandate to tackle all forms of hate, including rightfully standing up for Black, Muslim, Jewish, Indigenous, and Sikh communities, amongst many others.

Our community still heals from the cost of hate.

On June 6th, we will mark the 5th anniversary of the terrorist killing of three generations of a Muslim family in London, Ontario. Every year on January 29th, we also commemorate the 6 Muslim men murdered in the Quebec City Mosque.

We are constantly reminded of these incidents, as hatred targeting our community continues to intensify across the country.

Even as the Prime Minister was speaking, our staff was speaking to Hamilton police about a school bus that serviced an Islamic school in Hamilton that was attacked and vandalized with Islamophobic graffiti.

Hate of all forms, including anti-semitism and Islamophobia, must be tackled. We will continue to call for the protection of all communities. We look forward to sitting down with members of this council to ensure our community’s concerns are acted upon.
