MISSION
Every person, no matter how young or old deserves to feel seen, heard and included in the social fabric of society. Our mission is to create opportunities for social inclusion through volunteerism; social activity, community involvement and building inter generational connections to improve quality of life for seniors
THE PROBLEM OF SOCIAL ISOLATION
Social isolation is defined as a sta
te of complete or near complete lack of contact between an individual and society. Human beings, regardless of age, are social creatures. When we feel connected to others in a meaningful way, we experience significant physical and emotional health benefits. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, many elders experience social isolation, which can lead to a variety of negative health outcomes. To combat this, Reh’ma is dedicated to creating programs, activities and initiatives aimed at reducing social isolation. WHY IT MATTERS
According to Statistics Canada, the proportion of the senior population (aged 65 years and older) had been steadily increasing over the past four decades. From 1971 to 2010, the proportion of seniors in the population went from 8% to 14%. In fact, seniors could represent between 23% to 25% of the population by 2036.
