Advocacy in Action: Edmonton’s multifamily waste management rollout

Municipal service changes can have a real impact on condominium communities.

During Edmonton’s multifamily waste management rollout, Canadian Condominium Institute CCI - North Alberta Chapter advocated on behalf of condominium communities by engaging with City Councillors, connecting with municipal election candidates, surveying members, and sharing feedback with City Administration and Council.

When new condos are built, the decisions made early can affect owners and condominium corporations for years to come.

The CCI Ontario Building Committee’s Building Better Condominiums white paper highlights challenges in new condominium developments that can lead to increased long-term maintenance and capital costs for condominium corporations and unit owners.

Those costs can show up later through rising condo fees, special assessments, repairs, and added financial pressure on communities.

By bringing attention to issues around building quality, durability, maintainability, and long-term planning, CCI is helping keep important condo concerns part of the broader industry conversation.
