The Knowledge Hub connects innovative trauma-and violence-informed health promotion projects funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada’s investment, “Supporting the Health of Victims of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse through Community Programs” (2015-2022) and subsequently, “Preventing and Addressing Family Violence: The Public Health Perspective” (2022-2016) through a Community of Practice. - Deliberate misgendering or use of dead names

Expanding the Reach of Safety: Assessing Safety and Risk with Survivors of Gender-Based Violence

Participants will be introduced to The Redwood’s Accelerated Safety Assessment and Risk Management (A-SARM) and Youth Safety Assessment and Risk Management (Y-SARM) frameworks. Developed through a shelter-led approach, these frameworks support service providers in identifying, assessing and responding to the safety needs of survivors of gender-based violence.

The 2026–2027 Mini Resource Spotlight series features projects participating in Web of Impact, a national knowledge mobilization initiative funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada.

The Learning Network is pleased to share Beyond Her Strength, a poem by Kuldeep Ahluwalia.

Kuldeep Ahluwalia's bravery and persistence made possible the Supreme Court of Canada's landmark recognition of the tort of intimate partner violence.

During the Learning Network and Knowledge Hub webinar, The Tort of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Canada: The Supreme Court's Landmark Ruling in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia (hyperlink), Kuldeep closed the session by sharing Beyond Her Strength.

Kuldeep wrote Beyond Her Strength in 2014 and first shared it publicly in 2015 at a Women's Day event in Mississauga. Following the webinar, many participants asked whether the poem could be shared. We are grateful to Kuldeep for sharing Beyond Her Strength with the Learning Network.

The Learning Network a le plaisir de partager Au‑delà de sa force, un poème de Kuldeep Ahluwalia. La version française est une traduction libre de l’original : Beyond Her Strength.

Le courage et la ténacité de Kuldeep Ahluwalia ont rendu possible la reconnaissance historique, par la Cour suprême du Canada, du délit de violence entre partenaires intimes.

Lors du webinaire du Learning Network et du Centre de connaissances, Le délit de violence entre partenaires intimes (VPI) au Canada : la décision historique de la Cour suprême du Canada dans l’affaire Ahluwalia c. Ahluwalia, Kuldeep a conclu la séance en récitant son poème Au‑delà de sa force.

Kuldeep a écrit Au‑delà de sa force en 2014 et l’a partagé publiquement pour la première fois en 2015, lors d’un événement de la Journée des femmes à Mississauga. À la suite du webinaire, un grand nombre de participant·e·s ont demandé si l’on pouvait partager le poème. Nous remercions Kuldeep d’avoir partagé Au‑delà de sa force avec le Learning Network.

July is Disability Pride Month.

Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate the strength, achievements, and diversity of people with disabilities.

We also recognize the ongoing work of the disability rights and Disability Justice movements in advancing equity, accessibility, and collective care. In the GBV sector, this work is essential. People with disabilities experience disproportionately high rates of violence and often face significant barriers to accessing support. Building more equitable responses requires listening to the disability community, centering the leadership and expertise of people with disabilities, and strengthening policies, services, and systems that improve access to care and support.

This Disability Pride Month, we're sharing three Learning Network resources that explore the intersection of disability and gender-based violence, including how Disability Justice can strengthen prevention, response, and systems change across the GBV sector.

We're pleased to share that these resources are now available in both English & French through our collaboration with Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes.

Le mois de juillet est le Mois de la fierté des personnes en situation de handicap.

Le Mois de la fierté des personnes en situation de handicap est une occasion de célébrer la force, les réalisations et la diversité des personnes en situation de handicap.

Nous reconnaissons également le travail continu des mouvements de défense des droits des personnes en situation de handicap et de justice pour les personnes en situation de handicap en vue de faire progresser l’équité, l’accessibilité et les soins collectifs. Dans le secteur de la VFS, ce travail est essentiel. Les personnes en situation de handicap subissent des taux disproportionnellement élevés de violence et se heurtent souvent à d’importants obstacles lorsqu’elles cherchent du soutien. Pour bâtir des réponses plus équitables, il faut écouter la communauté des personnes en situation de handicap, accorder un rôle de premier plan au leadership et à l’expertise des personnes en situation de handicap, et renforcer les politiques, les services et les systèmes qui améliorent l’accès aux soins et au soutien.

En ce Mois de la fierté des personnes en situation de handicap, nous partageons trois ressources du Learning Network qui explorent l’intersection du handicap et de la violence fondée sur le sexe, y compris la façon dont la justice pour les personnes en situation de handicap peut renforcer la prévention, l’intervention et le changement à l’échelle des systèmes dans l’ensemble du secteur de la VFS.

Nous avons le plaisir d’annoncer que ces ressources sont maintenant offertes en français et en anglais grâce à notre collaboration avec l’organisme Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes.

As Pride Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the leadership, resistance, and joy of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

It also offers an opportunity to recognize the long-standing and ongoing transformative contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in addressing gender-based violence (GBV).

Across Canada, we are witnessing an alarming rise in anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric, policies, and violence, with profound impacts on q***r, trans, and gender-diverse people. This reinforces the importance of standing in solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, centring and supporting their leadership, knowledge, and lived expertise, and strengthening inclusive, affirming, and responsive services that better support 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

We also want to recognize 2SLGBTQIA+ led and serving organizations that continue to drive meaningful change through survivor support, advocacy, community building, connection, and belonging.

We invite you to explore this selection of Learning Network resources to support ongoing learning and reflection throughout the year.

It is because of Kuldeep Ahluwalia, her bravery and persistence, that the Supreme Court of Canada issued a landmark decision for survivors of IPV across this country.

The webinar on June 11, 2026, opened with a reflection from Kuldeep Ahluwalia and brought together Kirsten Mercer, Maneesha Mehra, and Emily Murray to explore the history of the case Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia and what the majority decision means for survivors of IPV. Kuldeep Ahluwalia closed the session by sharing her poetry.
