>The Msgr. Kandathil Social Justice Award<

Last year during our 60th anniversary year, we inaugurated the Msgr. Kandathil Social Justice Award to recognize the extraordinary commitment of a person or persons whose efforts have exemplified the social justice spirit of our founder, Msgr. Augustine “Father Gus” Kandathil.

The winner’s efforts, in partnership with Save A Family Plan, demonstrate love and compassion for those living in extreme poverty in India.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2nd annual award, from anyone familiar with the mission of Save A Family Plan. To nominate a person, persons, or group for consideration, please contact [email protected].

Nominations will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, with the winner announced publicly later this year. The deadline is June 1, 2026.

We were delighted to meet with the Faith In Action Team students and staff advisors at St Patrick's Catholic School in Kinkora, Ontario, Canada.

Our wide-ranging discussion covered: the work of Save A Family Plan in India, social justice, cultural and languages differences, and more. The kids were full of great questions!

Thank you for having us, and thank you for raising over $650 toward our Community Development Program.

Fun fact: next door to the idyllic school is one of the prettiest churches you'll see anywhere (also pictured)

One of our most cherished Community Development projects is the children's education program.

Our field partners in India recently shared some exciting news with us. One of the students in our program, Sahana (pictured on the far left ), scored top marks in her school in her school. Photo shared with permission.

This morning, we visited the awesome grade 4/5 class at St. Bernadette's in London, Ontario, Canada. What a wonderful group of kids! They've been studying all about social justice issues, and how to work with charities to make a difference.

As one student put it, "A volunteer is someone who decides to help."

Fun fact - we were able to trace our original connection back to the teacher's mom, who is a supporter of Save A Family Plan! How wonderful to see generations of young people learning and taking action.

🚽 Building Toilets — sanitation facilities built within family compounds protect women and children from the dangers of venturing out alone, paired with hygiene education that saves lives

☀️ Solar Panels for Homes — rooftop solar systems bring electricity indoors so parents can work from home, children can study after dark, and exterior lighting keeps families safe

🌿 Biogas Systems — clean-burning fuel for year-round cooking, replacing dangerous open fires inside the home and protecting family health

Strong families build stronger communities — and this Diwali, we’re celebrating that truth.
