Meet Kaiser! Also known as: house hippo

Owner: Member Lynnette Bosch

"I adopted Kaiser from the Humane Society when he was about 4 months old and 3 months later I was second guessing my decision. I reached out to a local trainer that was recommended by the vet clinic and immediately realised how much I needed to learn to be able to work with him and be able to lead. He's a mix of Husky, Mastiff, GSD and Rottweiler - he pulls and zooms, protects, talks back, is a big slobbery lazy baby and can side eye and huff better than anyone. When he started to get reactive to other dogs on walks and eventually redirected on me I felt lost and terrified. I put him in every dog sport seminar and try out that came along for a while and was blown away by both the range of dog sports that exist and the amazing and supportive community. Barn hunt, scent detection, agility, disc, rally-o, mantracking, flyball, pack walks. We hit snags along the way and had to start over, we've gone through reactivity class multiple times, a knee injury, allergies and finally a hypothyroid disorder diagnosis and finally things started to turn around. He is still the house hippo, still stubborn as heck, my velcro, and can only pay attention for small amounts of time before he sees a bug/bird/leaf but he's finally settling and has become quite the comedian. We've trialled in scent detection and that seems to be his love language. He will gladly go for 5km hike to lead me to roasting hot dogs. I couldn't imagine life without him and the bond we have and am excited for all that comes next."

Mark Your Calendars! 🗓️

We're excited to invite you to our second annual UpDog Crossover Crown Trial, happening on Canada Day 2026! This one-day event will feature seven thrilling games: Frizgility, FunKey, Seven Up, Greedy, Time Warp, Fireball, and Four Way Play Pairs. There will be two divisions, placements for 1st–4 th in each game, and overall trial champions and reserve champion in each division.

This trial is also part of the Crossover Crown series! Teams who participate in all three disc + agility games (Frizgility, FunKey, and Seven Up) will be eligible for special awards: Crossover Crown Champion and Reserve Champion in each division.

Thanks to Festivals Kitimat and the District of Kitimat, our club has also been invited to provide an exciting showcase during the Canada Day celebrations. This is a fantastic opportunity to share the sport we love with the wider community and highlight the incredible skills of our dogs and handlers in front of a large, engaged audience.

Please arrive early to check in, warm up, and be ready for a prompt start.

That’s a wrap on Spring UpDog Bite Club! 🌷🥏🐕

The weather held out for us today and it was so great seeing so many of our fabulous disc dog teams out on the field again after a long winter! Everyone did great and so many teams earned some exciting new Personal Bests! 🤩🙌🏻

Thank you to all our teams that came out to play with us! Hopefully we see you all at the Canada Day Crossover Crown event happening July 1st 👀
