BCER Roaming Ambient Monitor (RAM) is back in Kitimat. This is the third sampling year.

Our Roaming Air Monitor (RAM) van will be in Kitimat throughout this summer to support air quality monitoring in the community.

The RAM is a mobile unit designed to measure air quality while on the move or at a fixed location. As an additional monitoring point alongside the five fixed provincial air monitoring stations in Kitimat, it helps strengthen the overall monitoring network in the area.

What makes the RAM unique is its mobility - it can be deployed to specific locations and allows us to gather detailed, localized data where it’s needed most.

So why does this matter? Monitoring air quality is an important part of what we do to protect public safety and the environment. By collecting real-time data, the RAM helps us assess emissions from energy resource activities and ensure they meet strict regulatory requirements.

Below is the link to a document containing key messages from the Kitimat Airshed Group about our local airshed, air quality monitoring, and KAG's work. This document was assembled with support from Northern Health.

We are sharing it today in light of upcoming presentations happening in the area and recent negative and false comments about the airshed made in the media and legislature.

We hope this document will provide some clarity and serve as a source of accurate information on the matters mentioned above.
