🧡 June is National Indigenous History Month 🧡

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity to listen to Indigenous voices, explore Indigenous stories, and deepen our understanding of the experiences, resilience, and strengths of Indigenous communities across Canada.

At its heart, literacy is about stories—listening to them, sharing them, and learning from them. This month, we invite our community to take time to read a book by an Indigenous author, attend a local event, visit the library, or simply learn something new. Every story shared helps build understanding, respect, and connection.

Summer is just a few short weeks away! If you are looking for something fun for your children to do this summer, don't forget about our friends at the Kitimat Public Library Association. They always have great programs and activities to keep your entertained, reading and learning!

📚☀️ Just a reminder that our Intergenerational Week StoryWalk, "The Keeper of Wild Words", will be up until Saturday, June 6 in the Lions Park area between Tamitik and the Post Office.

It's also a great time to clear a few books off your shelves and share them with others! You can leave books (or take a few) at the Little Book Shelter located between the Post Office and Nana's Small Town Café. Or, if you're downtown between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., be sure to check out the free book carts in the breezeway of the Royal Bank building.

It's a beautiful day to pick up a coffee, a treat, or a sandwich, enjoy a stroll, read a story along the way and pick up your next great read from a book cart, the little book shelter or from our friends at the Kitimat Public Library Association. 📖☕🌿

Happy reading, Kitimat!

Aro is happy to share that it’s Intergenerational Week, and Literacy Kitimat has set up a special StoryWalk in the Lions Park area, between Tamitik and the Post Office from May 31 to June 6.

📖 The Keeper of Wild Words is a beautiful story about a young girl and her grandmother discovering and celebrating the words that connect us to nature.

🚶 Start and finish at the corner near Nana's Little Town Play Café and enjoy reading the story as you walk.

Bring a child, a grandparent, a friend—or simply enjoy it yourself!

Happy reading! ❤️📚

📚✨ Did you know Kitimat has SIX Little Book Shelters around town? ✨📚

These little spots are perfect for picking up a new-to-you read 📖 or dropping off some books to make room on your shelves for new adventures! 💛

You can find the book shelters at:
📍 Mountainview Square (between WorkBC Kitimat and Two Peaks Brewing)
📍 Green space near Lion’s Park (near RBC & Tamitik)
📍 Chilko Park
📍 Mailbox near Tony’s Corner Store
📍 Near the Community Garden at Mountainview Alliance Church
📍 Cable Car neighbourhood

PLUS — there are TWO book carts out Monday–Friday from approximately 9am–4pm 📚🛒
➡️ Outside WorkBC Kitimat
➡️ In the breezeway in the RBC building

The shelters and carts have plenty of room right now, making this the perfect time for a little spring cleaning 🌷🧹 and a chance to share your reading treasures with someone else in the community. ❤️

Take a book • Leave a book • Share the love of reading 📖✨
