What makes STEAM School so special? We asked the youth who experience it every week! 🎤🎃

As our first session wraps up, we're looking back at some of the creativity, learning and Halloween fun that filled the Kawartha Lakes Makerspace & Skills Hub!

From building unique creations and exploring technology to making friends and tackling new challenges, our learners and educator have plenty to share about their STEAM School experience. 🔬💡

At STEAM School, small class sizes and age-specific activities give youth the opportunity to explore their interests, build confidence and discover new ways of learning, all while having fun along the way! 🙌

Ready for Session 2? 🚀

November and December classes begin the week of Nov. 2, with opportunities for learners ages 6–13.

Take a look at what our learners and educators have to say, and see why STEAM School could be a great fit for your family! 🎬

Our STEAM School learners stepped beyond the classroom as every age group visited FLATO Academy Theatre Lindsay for a haunted ghost tour filled with history, discovery and a little mystery, making it the perfect community outing leading up to Halloween! 🎃

Learners explored the theatre’s 133-year history, uncovering stories from the past while getting a behind-the-scenes look at what brings live performances to life. 🎬✨

From stage lighting to the technology and technical production behind a show, it was a chance to discover how science, technology and the arts work together in the world of theatre. 💡

A big thank you to the FLATO Academy Theatre team for welcoming all our STEAM School learners and sharing a piece of Lindsay’s history with us! 🙌

Who says Halloween fun is just for the learners? 👻

Our STEAM School educator brought a little extra creativity to the classroom this week, showing up in four different costumes to celebrate Halloween alongside our learners!

From the Lorax and Beetlejuice to Arthur and a snazzy, jack-o-lantern blazer and tie, each costume brought a new surprise and plenty of smiles!🎭✨

At STEAM School, learning is about more than lessons and activities. When educators join in the fun, they help create a welcoming environment where youth feel comfortable expressing themselves, being creative and building meaningful connections.

Sometimes, the best way to inspire curiosity and participation is to lead by example and show learners that it's okay to be playful, try something different and have fun along the way! 🙌

A big shoutout to Colton our STEAM School educator for bringing so much personality, energy and Halloween spirit to the classroom this week! 🎃

One week until LEGO Robotics begins! 🤖🧱

Have a learner ages 12–13 (Grades 7–8) who loves building, technology or figuring out how things work? LEGO Robotics is a chance to turn that curiosity into creativity, coding and problem-solving!

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 4, learners will build and program LEGO robots, experiment with movement and explore how robotics is used in everyday life and different industries. 💻⚙️

Along the way, they'll develop new skills, tackle challenges and discover what they can create when coding and engineering come together. 🙌

The program runs Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kawartha Lakes Makerspace & Skills Hub (12 Peel St., Lindsay) and is offered at no cost.

Sometimes, the most meaningful part of learning is the connections we make along the way. 💻🤝

On Sept. 23, Connected & Protected brought 17 seniors from across Kawartha Lakes together at the Kawartha Lakes Makerspace & Skills Hub for a day of digital learning, laughter and community connection.

From recognizing online scams and strengthening passwords to sharing stories and asking questions, participants gained practical skills while building confidence with everyday technology. 🔐💡

As Sherisse Richards, Partner Delivery Lead with Ampere, shared, “The highlight was seeing learning turn into connection.”

Beyond the technology, the day was filled with music, games, conversations and a shared sense of belonging. One participant even described the experience by saying, “This is a club I want to belong to.” 🙌

Connected & Protected was a reminder that learning at any age can bring people together, build confidence and create lasting community connections.

Swipe through to see moments from the day, and read the full story to discover how digital learning, joy and belonging came together at the Makerspace. 😊

A little history, a lot of creativity at the Makerspace! 🎨🏛️

During our Sculpture Study After-School Program, learners explored the history and characteristics of Greek sculpture, then used what they learned as inspiration for creations of their own.

Along the way, they practiced observing details, making creative decisions, solving problems and turning an idea into something they could be proud of. 🙌

After-school programs like this give youth the chance to build confidence, explore new interests and develop skills that go beyond the project in front of them. ✨
