The numbers are in and they're telling a story:

Labour Force Survey results for Peterborough CMA show a 6.8% unemployment rate in September, down 0.2% from August (seasonally adjusted three-month moving average).

Comparable Ontario and national rates were 6.9% (no change) and 6.5% (no change) respectively.

News reports typically look at monthly data, showing 7.0% (up 0.1) for Ontario and 6.5% (up 0.1) nationally in September.

There are 79,600 individuals in the labour force.

✨ A wide range of job search and career planning resources, including web-based Career Ladders.

Curious what we're working on? Right now, we've got a few things in motion:

👉 Our 2026–2027 Local Labour Market Planning Report is underway, gathering fresh local data and checking in on the action plan from last year's report.

👉 We've partnered with Muskoka-Kawarthas Employment Services and Simcoe Muskoka Skillforce on a virtual AI Foundations webinar, focused on practical, low-risk ways almost any workplace can start using AI.

👉 We're holding in-person Career Pathways sessions with employment service partners across the region, covering local labour market info and job search tools.

👉 And our monthly Community Connections Newsletter keeps pulling it all together, with the labour market updates, funding opportunities, and events that come out of this work.

This day is not just about recalling a painful chapter in Canada's history; it is about acknowledging the profound and lasting effects of these institutions on Indigenous peoples.

In solidarity, we don the orange shirt, a symbol of the immense loss experienced by Indigenous children – the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-worth.

As we wear this shirt, let it serve as a powerful reminder that every child, no matter their background, holds invaluable worth and significance.

Today, and every day, we pledge our commitment to the reconciliation process, understanding that the road to healing is long but essential.
