Community-based, charity. Offering quality, early learning services to Kamloops families since 1996.

The society offers a full range of quality, licensed programming for children aged birth through to 5 years. We offer mixed-age groupings because we believe that children learn from their peers and the variety of experience, knowledge, and abilities of the children is beneficial for the group.

Smoke on the horizon, helicopters overhead, support workers in the community — wildfire season brings a lot of questions from children. How do we answer them honestly, without creating fear?

We put together a few gentle, age-appropriate tips for handling these moments with young children — read more below.

Talking About Wildfire

Wildfire is part of our children’s world right now — and they have thoughts, questions, and feelings about it. Our new entrance display shares how our classrooms opened that conversation through art and story

Wildfire smoke can change quickly — and young children are especially vulnerable.

Yesterday, ELSoK Kamloops families headed out to Pine Park to release the coho salmon fry we’ve been raising from eggs since fall — and it was a beautiful day!
Just like our five-year-olds getting ready to head off to kindergarten, these little fry are about to make the stream their home for the next year before their big adventure to the ocean. We explored the trail, got our feet wet, the sent a whole crew of tiny fish off into the world.
Thank you to the families that took time out to share the moment!
