BC Interior Community Foundation Enriching quality of life in the Thompson, Nicola, South Cariboo by facilitating charitable giving

The BC Interior Community Foundation, formerly the Kamloops Foundation, supports communities in our region in three ways:

1) We work with donors to build endowment funds to support community vitality;
2) We grant funds to a wide range of organizations and initiatives; and
3) We collaborate with individuals and community leaders to identify needs, build participation and develop partnerships. Our

goal is to continue to build the capacity of our communities by funding and supporting social needs. We recognize that individual donors have unique charitable interests and financial circumstances and we work with our donors to contribute to existing funds or set up endowments that meet those needs.

During National Public Works Week, we’re recognizing the many ways the City of Kamloops continues to invest in the people and future of our community.

Kamloops has a long history of coming together around sport, recreation, and civic pride. Through its partnership with BC Interior Community Foundation, the City continues to steward eight community funds that help support local priorities and opportunities for residents.

Among them are the 1979 Winter Games Sports Legacy Fund and the 1993 Canada Summer Games Legacy Fund, which continue to support local athletes, amateur sport organizations, and recreation opportunities decades after those events brought our community together.

These funds are a reminder that some of the best investments a city can make are the ones that continue giving back for generations. They reflect the pride, generosity, and long-term vision that continue to shape our community today.

The impact of community philanthropy is often found in simple moments of joy.

Through the Beverley Bullock Outdoor Education Fund, held at the BC Interior Community Foundation, students at Heffley Creek Elementary School are heading outdoors with updated equipment that encourages activity, exploration, and play.

In a recent thank you letter, the school shared that Beverley Bullock’s legacy continues to enrich the lives of students, and that they look forward to hearing “the squeals of joy” as children use the equipment for years to come.

This is the lasting impact of a fund created with community in mind. Support that continues year after year, helping young people connect with the outdoors, their classmates, and the world around them.

What a wonderful evening for our community. 💙

More than 200 children, youth, and caregivers attended the free Foundry Kamloops movie night on May 7 in recognition of Child and Youth Mental Health Day.

BC Interior Community Foundation was proud to help support this event alongside Foundry Kamloops, and we are deeply grateful to the donors who created the Noble Endeavours Fund, Helping Hand Fund, and Dianne Parkin Fund at our Foundation. Their generosity helped make this evening of connection, fun, and community possible.

This is what community philanthropy looks like. People helping create opportunities that strengthen wellbeing, belonging, and support for local youth and families throughout our city.

It’s powerful to see our board members standing together, holding a cheque for $366,940.
It’s a big number. It represents funding going out to 99 charities across the Thompson, Nicola and South Cariboo.
But what this photo really represents is something else.
It represents time.
Time spent in meetings.
Time spent asking thoughtful questions and making careful decisions.
Time spent reviewing applications.
Time given freely, because they care about this community.
During National Volunteer Week, we’re reminded that none of this work happens on its own.
At the BC Interior Community Foundation, the grants we distribute each year are made possible by donors who choose to give back in a lasting way. They are also made possible by volunteers who steward those gifts with care.
Our board members are part of that story.
They help ensure that funding reaches organizations working on the front lines, supporting youth, strengthening food security, advancing mental health, enriching the arts, protecting our environment, and caring for seniors and families.
The impact is real.
It’s seen in places like the Kamloops Art Gallery, where reliable funding allows programs to grow and people to stay connected to the arts. It’s seen through A Way Home Kamloops, where accessible, low-barrier bursaries are helping young people who have experienced homelessness move forward in their education.
And behind it all are people who quietly give their time to make it happen.
This is what community looks like. Ordinary people, doing extraordinary things, through their generosity and their willingness to give their time, treasure and talent.
To our donors, our board, and all volunteers across our region, thank you.

Thank you to those who give their time and talent to strengthen our communities.

It’s so nice to see our Board member Brian Monroe recognized here. His commitment reflects the spirit of service that drives so much good across our region, and we’re proud to have him as part of our Foundation family.

Sometimes, support arrives exactly when it’s needed most.

Thanks to the Stollery Charitable Foundation Fund, we were honoured to award a $10,750 grant to The Family Resource Centre (The Tree).

Recently, The Tree has been navigating an incredibly difficult time. Executive Director Susan Wright experienced the unimaginable loss of her son in a car accident. In moments like these, even the strongest leaders need space to grieve, and organizations need support to carry forward their vital work.

This grant will provide emergency staffing support, ensuring that families continue to receive care, while allowing Susan the time she needs.

Because this is what community philanthropy does. It shows up when it matters most.
