Hilary and Jordon raced through Fresh St. Market for their Supermarket Sweep - an unforgettable Royal Affair auction prize gifted to them by Hilary’s mom, Colleen, a member of the RIH Foundation’s Board of Directors!

When Guy Mercier first toured the home that would become Mercier House, its purpose immediately felt personal.

He thought of his sister and the long three-hour journeys she regularly had to make for cancer treatment in Quebec. He understood how much it means for a patient to have somewhere to stay that is comfortable, private, and close to care.

That connection inspired Guy to support the project with an incredible $1 Million gift, and we are proud to name Mercier House in his honour.

That is why the RIH Foundation created Mercier House.

With nine private bedrooms, a shared kitchen, gathering spaces, laundry facilities and beautiful views of Kamloops, Mercier House gives out of town patients and their caregivers a welcoming place to rest between appointments, treatments, and long days at the hospital.

As more specialized care comes to Kamloops, Mercier House is helping remove one more barrier for the people who need it.

Welcoming Rob Wilson as Chair of the RIH Foundation Board

Strong communities are built by people who invest their time, expertise and energy in their future. For Rob Wilson, that commitment to Kamloops has been lifelong.

His family’s roots here span generations. After studying at UBC and building his career in Vancouver, Rob returned home in 2006, where he and his wife, Rachel, have raised their three sons.

Rob brings more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 20 years as a Wealth and Portfolio Manager with RBC Dominion Securities in Kamloops. His community leadership is equally extensive. Rob is a Past President of the Kamloops Art Gallery and has served on the Board of Directors for the Kamloops Airport Authority Society and School District 73 Business Company. Provincially, he has served on the boards of the BC Immigrant Investment Fund and BC Renaissance Capital Fund.

His connection to our hospital is deeply personal, with RIH present throughout generations of his family’s most joyful and difficult moments. That history makes his leadership as Board Chair especially meaningful. Rob’s commitment to Kamloops, strategic experience and belief in the RIH Foundation’s mission will help deepen relationships, inspire greater support and turn the generosity of our region into meaningful advancements in care.

For Rob, helping transform healthcare is another way of investing in the community his family is proud to call home.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Today, we pause to reflect, listen and learn. We honour the children who never came home from residential schools, the Survivors who continue to carry their stories, and the families and communities forever impacted.

As members of the Kamloops community, we recognize the significance of this day and stand with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and Indigenous communities across Canada.

Truth and reconciliation asks each of us to keep learning, to listen with respect and to take meaningful steps toward a more understanding and equitable future.

Seven years ago, I joined the RIH Foundation Board because I believed deeply in what was possible for healthcare in Kamloops. What I could not have known then was how much this experience, and the people behind it, would come to mean to me.

Recruitment and retention have always been especially close to my heart. When healthcare professionals choose Kamloops, they are choosing more than a place to practice. They are choosing a community, a home and a place where their families can build a life. Helping them feel welcomed, connected and confident in that choice has been one of the most meaningful parts of my time on the Board.

As I look back, I am proud of the progress we have made, but more than anything, I am grateful. Grateful for my fellow Board members, the Foundation team, the friendships formed along the way and the trust placed in me as Chair this past year.

Stepping away from the Board is bittersweet, but this is not goodbye. I will continue to champion the Foundation’s work and share why Kamloops is such a remarkable place to live, raise a family and build a practice.

Rob Wilson, I wish you every success as incoming Chair. I know the Foundation will be in thoughtful and capable hands.
