𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗲!

Rosie, also known as Princess Buttercup has just celebrated her 12th birthday!

When she had just turned 4; she was running with her little brother and suffered an unfortunate rupture of two discs and was rushed to the vet for treatment.
Thanks to a wonderful surgeon; a therapy program; 8 weeks of crate rest and her sheer determination to walk again; she made a full recovery and has been loving life to the fullest ever since.
Rosie loves the outdoors, raspberries, the garden hose, burrowing in a pile of blankets, lounging in front of the fireplace and belly rubs from anyone that will indulge her.

Send us pictures of your dachshund(s) being silly, napping, smiling, eating ice cream, chasing squirrels, ordering a Puppuccino at the drive-thru, or anything that you feel will bring a smile to others.

Don't forget to tell us a bit about who is in the picture.

Those featured in our Sunday Smiles series will have a chance to win a Dachshund themed prize pack. The photo with the most likes, love, laughs and comments on the voting post at the end of the month, will win!

🩷 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 🩷

🐾 Hi, I’m Duchess! 🐾

💚 Good with dogs
💚 Sweet & easy going
💚 Loves walks & car rides
💛 Barks at visitors
💛 Vision & hearing loss
💛 Requires ongoing allergy medication

I’m around 10–12 years old, although my missing teeth make it impossible to know for sure. I’m definitely a senior, and I’ve got some special needs, but I have so much love to give!

I love food — fruit, veggies, kibble, wet food…honestly, I’m not particularly fussy! I’m a grazer, so I prefer to eat when I feel like it rather than sticking to a strict schedule. I absolutely love car rides and I’m a good little walker on leash.

I do have some things my forever family will need to understand. My knees aren’t very good, so I can’t jump up or down from furniture and I need a comfortable bed on the floor. I also have significant vision loss with very limited depth perception, so stairs are especially dangerous for me. I sometimes trip over things and may put my nose right against your legs to figure out who you are. Because of this, I need a safe, predictable home where my surroundings can be kept clear and accessible. And I am pretty much deaf. For these reasons, children 12+ who are aware of my needs and are understanding are best suited for me.

I have allergies and take medication every evening with dinner to help manage them. I’m doing much better with my house training, I still need someone who understands my cues and takes me outside regularly.

I’m a bit of a barker so apartment living wouldn’t be a good fit for me. I can be quite protective of my home. Visitors can be challenging because I bark when people arrive and may start again whenever they move around. I eventually settle, but I need a family who understands that this is part of who I am and is willing to manage it patiently.

What I’m looking for is pretty simple: a quiet, loving home where I can spend my golden years feeling safe, cherished and very, very loved.

If you’re looking for a little senior shadow with a big personality and an even bigger heart, maybe I’m the girl you’ve been waiting for.

🐾💜 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 💜🐾

Our sweet senior girl, Willow, had her much-needed dental a few weeks ago.

At that time, Willow had 17 teeth removed, but unfortunately, she became unstable under anesthesia, and the veterinary team had to stop before removing the remaining problem teeth.

The good news is that Willow has been recovering, feeling better, and getting lots of love from her foster family 🥰

Today, she’s back at the vet for her second dental to remove the remaining bad teeth. We’re keeping our fingers and paws crossed that everything goes smoothly this time and that Willow can finally put her dental troubles behind her!

Of course, extensive dental work comes with expensive veterinary bills, and we could really use your help to cover the cost.

💜 Would you consider making a donation toward Willow’s veterinary care?

Donations can be made online through Zeffy:

https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/6afe7c89-d882-40a0-8479-e0dac3db731f

Or by e-transfer to:
[email protected]

Every dollar makes a difference, and we are so grateful for everyone who has helped Willow along the way 💜

And please remember, if you can’t donate, you can still help! Share Willow’s story, send her some love, and keep those positive thoughts coming. Comments and interactions help support our Facebook monetization, while sharing helps us reach people who may be able to contribute.

Let’s get this sweet senior girl through her dental and one step closer to feeling her very best!

Thank you for caring, sharing, and being part of Willow’s cheerleading team! 🐾💜

𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

Recently, someone asked when the ACDR cookbook would be ready for purchase. Sadly, there won’t be a cookbook 😔

Why? Because sometimes we have great ideas, but we need a little help from our community to bring them to life.

Whether it’s a cookbook, a new event, a fun fundraiser, or some special ACDR merchandise, we love coming up with ways to bring our dachshund community together. We know many of you enjoy our events and look forward to the things we create, and that means so much to us!

But here’s the thing: when we ask for your input, opinions, or ideas, your feedback really does matter!
If we don’t get enough responses, it’s hard for us to know what you want, what you’d participate in, or whether an idea is worth pursuing.

We’re not expecting everyone to comment on everything, and we certainly aren’t complaining! We just want to remind you that a quick comment, a vote on a poll, or an answer to a question can make a real difference.

ACDR is about more than rescuing dachshunds. It’s about building a community of people who love them just as much as we do. And the best ideas are often the ones we create together!

So the next time you see us asking a question, looking for suggestions, or looking for your opinion, please take a moment to join the conversation. You never know...your feedback might be what helps bring the next great ACDR idea to life 😊🐾💛

Thank you for being part of our community, for supporting our rescue, and helping us make a difference for dachshunds across Atlantic Canada.

Now…should we give our Community Cookbook another try? 🤔🌭📖

Don't be shy! Tell us in the comments, should we ask for recipes again? And would YOU submit a recipe? 👩‍🍳🐾

We'd love to hear from you!
