His Eminence Archbishop Apostolos of Canada met with Archimandrite Evdokimos Mathioudakis, Spiritual Advisor; Mr. Elias Ketsetzis, Camp Director and Medical Coordinator; and Mr. George Belegrinis, Assistant Director, of the Holy Archdiocese’s summer camp, formerly known as Camp Metamorphosis, which will now bear the name “Emmanuel.”
As a ministry of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, the camp serves the spiritual formation of children and young people. Its new name, “Emmanuel,” is a biblical name of our Lord Jesus Christ, meaning “God with us.” It affirms Christ’s presence at the heart of the camp’s life and mission, guiding young people towards a deeper understanding and experience of their Orthodox faith.
Drawing upon his extensive experience in camp ministry and his pastoral commitment to young people, His Eminence offered the following reflection:
“Orthodox camp ministry holds a significant place in the life of our Archdiocese. Through prayer, worship, fellowship, and shared daily experiences, our young people are given the opportunity to deepen their relationship with Christ and strengthen their bonds with one another. Our responsibility is to provide an environment in which every child feels welcomed, valued, and supported. It is my prayer that ‘Emmanuel’ Summer Camp will continue to bear spiritual fruit, helping our youth experience God’s presence in their lives and grow as faithful members of His Church.”
His Eminence concluded the meeting by extending his paternal blessings to the entire camp team and encouraging its leadership to continue its ministry with renewed enthusiasm, unity, and a profound sense of ecclesiastical responsibility.
“Emmanuel” Summer Camp will continue to build upon the valuable legacy of Camp Metamorphosis, remaining an integral part of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada’s pastoral vision for youth ministry, with a renewed commitment to spiritual formation, Christian fellowship, and the cultivation of the next generation of faithful Orthodox Christians.
