Welcome to Haliburton Highlands Youth Unlimited (HHYU) page!

We have hit 500 followers!!!

You may be new to this page so we wanted to introduce ourselves!

Kyle and Leanne Young are the co-directors of HHYU.

Leanne grew up in Haliburton (you may know her as Leanne Plouffe). Leanne moved away and got her BA in youth ministry and got married to Kyle, who is from Peterborough). For 10 years Leanne and Kyle were mentorship and outreach workers in Moose Jaw Sk.

They moved back Haliburton at the beginning of Covid.

Once the dust from Covid settled they noticed the rise in isolation, anxiety and depression among youth in Canada. Stats Canada reports the medium age for anxiety is 11. Unfortunately Haliburton Youth were struggling.

Being professional youth workers the Young’s knew they had to do something about that for the youth in Haliburton. It takes a village to raise a child people say and they knew they knew how to change these stats for our local youth and the key was positive community and mentorship.

They started being in the schools providing in school support with reading.

Then in 2025 they relaunched The Bridge Youth Centre.

It is their belief that when youth have caring adult mentors, positive community, and life giving activities that provide opportunities to grow and develop new skills that youth will flourish and become all that they were created to be!

The Bridge Youth Centre is located beside the laundromat and is the perfect location for youth to walk to after school.

We believe God has created all youth on purpose and for a purpose. We see in the hope and potential in every young person! We desire to see youth in Haliburton having equal opportunities to live life to the fullest!

We are a fully community funded organization. We rely on the generosity of our community to run our programs and provide staffing.

Over 125 youth from all corners of our county benefited from our programs, staff and volunteers this past year!

Congratulations to all our grade 12 grads at The Bridge Youth Centre! It’s been so fun getting to know you all this year!!!

What a fun night at our high school drop in celebrating our grade 12 students!
These youth have been part of the core of our group since we opened!!! We will miss them next year and can't wait to see where life takes them! Haliburton Highlands - Youth Unlimited

We are celebrating with our Friends at Peterborough Youth Unlimited for the blessing of 100 men who selected them as the charity to be awarded $10k! They will use this money to help Peterborough youth learn job and life skills so they can succeed in all areas of their life!!

Go give them a shout out!

Also on June 20th they have the grand opening of their sports court! Kyle and I will be going with our family to celebrate with them! Come meet us at 256 Brock St in Peterborough!!!

A great opportunity for youth over 15-16

Prospective coaches, we are offering two NCCP courses right here in Haliburton. Foundations Introduction to Gymnastics on August 29th and Foundations Artistic Gymnastics August 30th. Normally these courses would require coaches to travel to the GTA to obtain them.

This will mark the first time these courses have been offered in the area and likely won’t happen again until next year. If you have an interest in becoming a coach, take advantage of the proximity. If you’re interested in becoming a coach on our team, we cover your training. Ask me for details.
