OUR 54TH ANNUAL MEETING..

A recap of the season; everything from lake stakes and signs, to the printed Trail Guide, and of course HCSA Operations

What a winter, the HCSA did way more with less ! Rewind to winter 2025 with 5 groomers we logged 1,795 grooming hours/machine time.. Winter 2026 with 4 groomers (1 less), 1,863 grooming hours/machine time. We were pretty much non stop at 229 grooming shifts over the season.

On the other side, we lost 21 days, parts/service/downtime/weather but doubled up when we could to get through it. FYI 161 cms of snow November to April. That's the operations side in a nutshell.

Of equal or greater importance for the HCSA is a celebration and recognition of our dedicated volunteers. Snowmobiling is two things, get a trial permit, ride, and enjoy. Additionally our group engages in The Business of Snowmobiling managing fleet, trails, landowners, fundraising, and so much more.

This is the HCSA crew that delivers trails to our community and ridership. It's tiring and very consuming pretty much 12 months a year.

Extra special and with heartfelt thanks, are our 140 landowners scattered all over the County of Haliburton and beyond. These are folks who allow us on their land with no compensation offering some of sleddings nicest trails anywhere featuring interesting terrain and awesome vistas. Our landowners do so freely with few reservations and recognize our trails fuel visitor spending during the “quiet months” .

Now….About these volunteers of ours. We are so lucky as you will see. This is the crew that makes it happen ! Please come to an HCSA meeting sometime. Learn more about us at hcsa.ca

WE'VE HAD A SIGNIFICANT SETBACK...

Mother Nature does it again; on our main trail into and out of Minden, a washout at our crossing over a creek on TOP B112 at Sedgewick Road. A springtime gusher displaced two culverts. Only last fall it was repaired with all kinds of gabian. A portion of Sedgewick Road west of this trail entrance was also wiped out. Location is 3.5 kilometers (guesstimate) west of TOP B103/The Rail Trail.

Meanwhile, have learned this all this water found its way to TOP B103/The Rail Trail south of Gelert. The damage has been repaired by our landowner, The County of Haliburton. Thank you.

We are not projects or work at this time. We have a lot on our plate. At least we have several weeks to figure this out AGAIN.

And.....The final score Mother Natural 1 HCSA 0

ON THE TOOLS IN THE BUSH, AND ON THE WATER TOO; DEALING WITH TWO BRIDGES...

18 volunteers, ourselves (the HCSA), Haliburton ATV Association and The Ontario Federation of 4 Wheel Drive Recreationists pulled together to redeck a worn out crossing on HCSA Trail 9. This our connection to the Gooderham area and Paudash Trail Blazers trails. For our two partners it's a very signicant trail and gets a lot of use during our off season (now). As you will see we picked it clean right down to the stringers, and as you read this a fresh deck is in place. And, no mosquitos, yet !

What a day, and what a crew working together for better trails. See earlier post on this page on what was replaced.

Municipality of Highlands East

The second bridge project involved routine maintenance on the TOP B floating bridge at Little Hawk Lake. Another spring job, knocked off our to-do list.

See pics on both projects.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL OR READ THIS...

We recieved this note from "The Mothership" as most of you did asking for rider input on winter 2026. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs - OFSC want's to hear from you 🫵 , 3 minutes of your time is not a big ask, in farenheit that 180 seconds. Go !

"....We are a little surprised at how few of you have taken the time to tell us about your season - your feedback helps support the planning and priorities across the organization. Do you have 3 minutes to spare? We're keeping the survey open until Monday, May 11th so this will be our last ask:...."
