Based in Edmonton, WINGS provides safe housing and support for women and children leaving family violence, offering the stability and care needed to rebuild safe, independent lives. toll-free and you will automatically be directed to a shelter in your area. Wings of Providence, commonly known as Wings, stands for Women - in - need - growing - stronger. Wings’ mission is ‘to provide comprehensive transitional programs and independent living in a safe, secure, supportive and healthy environment for women with children who have experienced family violence’. Families stay at Wings for 6 months and during that time they attend programming which involves group and individual counseling. Topics discussed in group help to foster parenting and life skills, as well as help mothers understand and better cope with family violence. Kids group and youth programming discuss topics such as self-esteem, the family and feelings. It also allows the children and youth to participate in activities and enjoy special outings. In June of 2012, Wings officially opened The Home Next Door – a 29 unit, affordable housing complex which provides a safe and secure home in a healthy, supportive community, to women with children to promote continued healing and independence. The first of its kind in Edmonton, The Home Next Door meets the critical need for long term housing, addresses multi-generational poverty, and has great potential for positive social change within the community.

📣 BIG NEWS! 📣

WINGMAN 2026 officially wrapped up yesterday, and while we are still tallying the final campaign total, we have some pretty incredible news to share!

For the third year, the teams at Canada One Auto Group, Waterloo Ford, Waterloo Lincoln, and Freedom Ford have stepped up in a BIG way for WINGMAN.

Throughout September, the dealerships committed to matching donations to the campaign up to $40,000, helping every donation to WINGMAN go twice as far.

And today, we are thrilled to announce that they are providing the FULL $40,000 matching gift to Wings!

Their involvement in WINGMAN goes far beyond this incredible gift. CanadaOne Auto, Waterloo Ford Lincoln and Freedom Ford hosted this year’s WINGMAN photo shoot, and members of their teams joined the campaign as WINGMEN themselves, standing alongside our community to raise awareness about family violence and support women and children at Wings.

For three years, these teams have continued to show up for WINGMAN and for the families we serve, and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity, commitment and belief in this campaign.

⭐ It’s the FINAL DAY of WINGMAN 2026! ⭐

As we head into the final day of this year’s campaign, we’re excited to introduce one more of this year’s incredible WINGMEN!

For returning WINGMAN Jackson Makarowski, supporting Wings is something that runs in the family.

Jackson is an Analyst with the Government of Alberta and has aspirations of becoming a lawyer. His family has supported Wings since before he was born, and that connection continues today. Jackson is once again taking part in WINGMAN alongside his grandfather, who is also a WINGMAN this year.

“I believe in the power of community and coming together to help those who need it most.”

Jackson knows how important safety and stability are for women and children rebuilding after family violence. Having a safe place to heal gives families the opportunity to find themselves again, move forward and begin breaking cycles of trauma.

For Jackson, WINGMAN is also about men recognizing the role they can play.

“Men should be standing up for women.”

We are grateful to have Jackson back for another year, continuing a family connection to Wings that spans generations and standing alongside women and children as they rebuild their lives.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home, as well as the survivors of residential schools, their families, communities, and the generations who continue to live with the effects of colonialism.

Throughout the year, Cora-Lee Fedoruk, Owner & CEO of The Matriarch Inc., (The Matriarch ) works with families at Wings through culturally grounded programming, teachings, ceremony and sharing circles. For the past several years, she has also led a supportive space at Wings in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, providing an opportunity for families to come together, share, learn and reflect.

As Cora-Lee shares:

“We are all treaty people. It doesn’t matter if you are a newcomer, non-indigenous or indigenous– we are all dealing with the effects of colonization. If we want to heal and move forward in a good way, we need to do it together and share our truths. Intergenerational healing is part of the trauma of Truth and Reconciliation. Sharing our stories is so important, sharing our pasts, sharing our truths. We are still living with the impact of residential schools, and the trauma is intergenerational.”

Truth and Reconciliation asks all of us to listen, to learn, to make space for truth and to understand the role we each have in moving forward together. The impacts of residential schools did not end when the schools closed, and their effects continue across generations.

Today and every day, we honour survivors, their families, communities, and the children who never came home.

Every Child Matters.

⭐ Featured WINGMAN ⭐

Meet Jeff Lucas, Vice President of Encore Trucking and Transport Ltd. and one of this year’s WINGMEN!

Encore is a family business celebrating 45 years this year, and Jeff has been part of the company for about 22 years. He also runs Cheshire Productions, works with Backside Tours and recently announced Edmonton Wing Fest, coming in fall 2027.

Jeff’s connection to supporting families impacted by family violence began through Encore. Several years ago, the company helped with projects at safe houses, where Jeff and his family learned more about the challenges women and children can face when leaving abuse, including shelters reaching capacity. Encore began purchasing hotel rooms to help women and children when shelters were full.

For Jeff, it reinforced how important it is for communities to be there for people leaving dangerous situations.

“Nobody deserves to get left behind and people need communities that lift them up.”

Jeff brought two meaningful items for his WINGMAN photos. The first is Encore’s Boom and Burn Bundle, a collection of hot sauces created to give back to the community, with $5 from every bottle made donated to charity.

He also brought his grandfather Frank Lucas’s handmade hard hat from 1976, when he worked as a drilling superintendent near Ahvaz, Iran. The hard hat represents Jeff’s grandparents, Frank and Elinor Lucas, who laid the foundation for their family business and have always been an inspiration to Jeff.

⭐ Today’s Featured WINGMAN ⭐

We are proud to welcome Jim Ennis as a first-time participant in this year’s WINGMAN Campaign in support of Wings.

Born and raised in Sherwood Park, Jim is President and CEO of Ennis Fabrics, the company his parents started in their garage 54 years ago. Today, he is proud to carry on the family legacy they built.

Hockey has also been an important part of Jim’s life. He played with the Edmonton Oilers and is a member of the Oilers Alumni.

Jim’s decision to become a WINGMAN is deeply rooted in family. His parents, Lois Ennis and Jim Ennis Sr., believed strongly in standing up for women’s rights, safety and equality, values that helped shape who he is today.

With four sisters, a loving wife, two daughters, a son and five grandsons, this cause is deeply personal to Jim. His own family has also been touched by family violence, strengthening his commitment to standing up for women and children.

For Jim, being a WINGMAN is also about setting an example for his son and grandsons that women deserve respect and safety, and that there is no place for family violence.

“I am a WINGMAN because there is absolutely no place for domestic violence in our world. Every woman and child deserves to feel safe, and it’s on all of us to stand up, speak out and help make that a reality.”

⭐Today’s Featured WINGMAN ⭐

We are honored to once again feature Jeffrey Leong as part of this year’s WINGMAN Campaign in support of Wings.

Jeffrey is a pharmacist at Shoppers Drug Mart, and outside of work he enjoys cooking and hiking. He is also a big sports fan and loves both watching and playing, especially basketball and golf. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his family.

Jeffrey is a dedicated supporter of Wings who believes that every woman and child deserves to feel safe at home and to have the support they need to start over.

In his words: “I believe we all have a responsibility to speak up against domestic violence.”

⭐ Today’s Featured WINGMAN ⭐

We’re excited to feature Ben Dashtestani, Structural Engineer with Worley, as part of this year’s WINGMAN Campaign!

Originally from Toronto and still a loyal Maple Leafs fan, Ben has worked with Worley in Edmonton for the past eight years. Outside of work, he enjoys hockey, soccer, cycling, non-fiction, action movies and, in particular, Marvel’s Deadpool.

Giving back is also an important part of Ben’s life. Through Worley, he has been deeply involved with United Way, chairing the company’s Canada West United Way Employee Campaign in 2023 and serving as a Sponsored Campaign Representative with United Way in Edmonton in 2024. He is also an ambassador for United Way’s Women United.

With his own commitment to volunteering and supporting women in our community, joining WINGMAN was another meaningful opportunity to stand with women and children rebuilding after family violence.

⭐ Today’s Featured WINGMAN ⭐

We’re excited to feature Robert Eikeland Senior E&I Buyer with Worley Canada Construction, as part of this year’s WINGMAN Campaign!

Outside of work, Robert loves staying active and spending time outdoors. Whether he’s golfing, playing slo-pitch, exploring outside, or spending time with friends, he values connection, having fun, and making the most of his time. He’s also a big animal lover and believes strongly in treating animals with kindness and respect.

Robert was inspired to become a WINGMAN through his work with Worley and the company’s ongoing involvement with Wings. Seeing the work being done to help women and children build lives free from fear motivated him to step forward and be part of the campaign himself.

For Robert, being a WINGMAN also reflects something simple but incredibly important: showing compassion, helping others, and being a good human.

🌟 Today’s Featured WINGMEN 🌟

Worley continues to be an incredible champion of Wings, showing up for women and children rebuilding after family violence in so many meaningful ways.

This year, their team raised essential funds through two golf tournaments, rolled up their sleeves through Worley’s Wing to help renovate apartments for families, and will return this November as the Presenting Sponsor of our 21st Annual Make Believe Ball.

And this September, members of their team are once again stepping forward as WINGMEN. Over the next couple of days, we’ll be featuring some of Worley’s WINGMEN and sharing why standing against family violence matters to them.

The Worley safety hard hat featured in the photos is especially fitting. Safety is at the heart of Worley’s work and at the heart of WINGMAN: the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, especially in their own home.
