of Providence, commonly known as Wings, stands for Women - in - need - growing - stronger. Wings’ mission is ‘to provide comprehensive transitional programs and independent living in a safe, secure, supportive and healthy environment for women with children who have experienced family violence’. Families stay at Wings for 6 months and during that time they attend programming which involves group and individual counseling. Topics discussed in group help to foster parenting and life skills, as well as help mothers understand and better cope with family violence. Kids group and youth programming discuss topics such as self-esteem, the family and feelings. It also allows the children and youth to participate in activities and enjoy special outings. In June of 2012, Wings officially opened The Home Next Door – a 29 unit, affordable housing complex which provides a safe and secure home in a healthy, supportive community, to women with children to promote continued healing and independence. The first of its kind in Edmonton, The Home Next Door meets the critical need for long term housing, addresses multi-generational poverty, and has great potential for positive social change within the community.

🌱 A few snapshots from Wings’ Rocky Forest Daycare!

Recently, the children have been busy planting seeds, watering their gardens, and checking in each day to see what’s growing. As their plants sprout, they’ve been drawing pictures of what they see and celebrating each new leaf along the way.

They’ve also been enjoying plenty of sensory play in the construction zone, digging, building, and letting their imaginations take the lead.

Our on-site daycare provides a safe, caring space where children can learn, play, explore, and just be kids while their families rebuild after family violence. 💜

For the past couple of days, team members from Wings have been attending the 2026 Housing Forward Summit at the Edmonton Convention Centre as an exhibitor agency, connecting with attendees and sharing more about the work of Wings and the importance of safe, affordable housing and support for families rebuilding after family violence.

It has been a wonderful opportunity to learn from other agencies, housing providers, and community organizations from across the Prairies, and to continue important conversations around housing, support, and community collaboration.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Wings table to connect with us this week! 💙

May 5 | Red Dress Day

Today, we pause to remember.

Red dresses across the country mark the lives of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people who are missing or have been taken by violence.

We recognize the ongoing and disproportionate impact of violence on Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people, and the deep grief carried by families and communities.

At Wings, we support Indigenous families every day. We are committed to listening, learning, and creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, and supported.

We stand in solidarity.
