April has given us a break from the cold — and with it, came moments that reminded us of the compassion within our community. On a recent outreach night, we were met by a young man helping an older woman find a place to stay. Thanks to the resource files we’ve put together, we were able to guide them to the best nearby shelter. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do this work. 💛

We also met a woman looking out for others, asking if she could take extra sandwiches to young people in need. Her compassion mirrored the spirit we hope to grow in our outreach: community members helping community members.

Our teams connected with folks where they were, including checking in on a man sleeping roadside. The improved weather brought more people out, and with them, more opportunities to share support and care.

So far in April, we've distributed:

✨ Sandwiches & snacks to those in need
✨ Beverages to help keep folks hydrated
✨ Essential clothing like shirts, sweaters, coats, toques, socks, and shoes
✨ Lifesaving Naloxone kits

A huge shoutout to the Green Party of Edmonton for sponsoring this month’s outreach — your generous donation made all the difference. 🙏 Thank you to Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse for the baked goods we were able to distribute.

We’re also seeing a growing demand for rain gear. If you’re able to help or donate, please reach out — every little bit helps.

During our outreaches, we not only help our community with the necessities, but we are becoming first responders for those experiencing drug poisonings as they are dramatically sky-rocketing.

The last few weeks, we've seen firsthand how dangerous today's drug landscape has become. In two recent incidents, we had to use 1 to 2 nasal spray narloxone kits and three needles to reverse these posionings. The last one, the individual still needed further intervention and had to be taken away for emergency care.

Drugs are not what they once were. That's why it's crucial to have more trained team members out there as the more people we have, the better we can respond, support, and prevent unnecessary deaths.

If you're looking to get involved, please reach out. Together, we can make a difference.

February Outreaches ❄️

February was colder than usual, meaning our outreaches looked a bit different. Instead of our members coming to us, our dedicated team went to them. In cold months like these, help is especially important.

This past month, we had the opportunity to provide over 175 sandwiches and snacks, as well as over 50 beverages to those in need. Alongside that, we were grateful to distribute over 73 essential clothing items — including socks, scarves, toques, blankets, jackets, and more. Thanks to the support of AHS, we were also able to provide over 20 Naloxone kits.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of places like Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse, the GPA Edmonton City-Center CA, our amazing community members, and people like you. Together, we've made a meaningful impact on those we serve.

The need for these items never stops. If you'd like to contribute but can’t make it to an outreach event, let us know — we’d be more than happy to help connect your generosity with those who need it most.

January outreaches

What a cold month! We have such a dedicated team that went out in even -40 to help our community members. Over the month we were able to hand out over 250 sandwiches, snacks and over 120 beverages that we could count. We were also blessed to support the community with over 540 clothing items, socks, scarves, toques (that are handmade with love), blankets, jackets, and various items. AHS supported us handing out over 40 Naloxone kits! These kits literally save lives!

With the support of amazing places like Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse, the GPA Edmonton City-Center CA, our community members and people like yourself we have made a huge impact in the lives of those we help. We understand that there is always a need for the items we hand out. If you are looking to make a difference and are unable to make it to an outreach, let us know and we can the bridge for the support you want to offer.

First outreach of the year!

Starting the year, we had such a great turnout out! We handed out almost 200 items, which included socks, toques, scarves, men's and women's clothing, jackets, shoes, and other various items, alongside our sandwiches, water, hot chocolate and various baked goods from Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse, some bananas, and fruit cake.

One of the hardest things at outreach is when we run out of things to hand out and there's still people in need. What is beautiful is that often (not always) there are random people who will show up with more food or, like at outreach, someone came with 3 bags of clothing for people to go through after we were done tare down.

It's heartwarming to see others supporting our community as well. The more support we can give to our community, the better. We are all a team, we are all humans and when we leave this world it's not what who we know or how much money we are leaving behind that makes a difference but rather the impact we've had while alive that makes the biggest difference in the lives of so many people. What have you done this year to make a difference in someone's life? We'd love to hear 🥰

✨️NYE - Our last outreach for 2024 ✨️

What an incredible day. While it was colder than anyone should have to live in, we were able to support our community with hot noodles, water, snacks, socks, toques, scarves, and everything was handed out with love and compassion.

Ending 2024, we hit some astounding numbers!
We hit:
10,000 meals handed out since March 2022 when we started.
We handed out over 7200 items that had a fair market value of over $115,000 😲🤯
The most amount of things we handed out were over 2300 bottles of water and over 1600 pairs of socks.

It's absolutely astounding as to how much our community comes together to support each other. We may be the boots on the ground, but our donors and volunteers are what really drive our ability to do this work.

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge some of our donors and supports:

Sweet Pea Cafe, AGS, Trail Tire, Integrity Seminars, Polar Park Breweries, CAWS, Green Party - City Center, Parsons Animal Rescue Foundation, Studio A, BNI Aggregate, Clansman Rugby Hall, Zorana, Robin Davidson, Creative Savage, Lezley Jones, Crochet by Queens, Vital Astrology, Smoke and Smolder, Rustic Lahoy, Virginia Lahoy

🌟Dec 17th 2024 Outreach 🌟

Wow what another great outreach!!! We had the opportunity to hand out over 275 items alongside our sandwiches, drinks, and snacks.

Next week we are having Outreach. We will be changing locations to 106a ave and 96st to set up at 1pm. This will allow for a win-win where our volunteers get to support our community AND get time to spend with their own.

The goal is to hand out over 300 meals so we can hit 10,000 meals handed since we first put our boots to the ground in March 2022.

We currently have gathered so many items, and yet we could use a lot more. There are over 4000 people out there. Let's make the largest impact we've made yet!

Want to join us? Fill out our volunteer form that will be in the comments. We will be posting an event for the 24th outreach soon!

🌟Dec 10 Outreach🌟

What an outreach! While it was only -12°c outside the ways people are having to provide for themselves outdoors is not okay. Everyone has the right to a proper shelter. Not everyone is welcome in shelters, sometimes due to reactions to other people's actions. Add that to the fact that those we support lose every shelter they make and now have to resort to makeshift materials that they can take with them or have found near by.

Due to our storage unit having a iced up lock we weren't able to set up tables 🙃 however, we were still able to hand out food, socks, coats, water, and blankets! Yay for very recent donations 🥰

We are prepping buddy bags! So if you happen to have any of the following please reach out!
Backpacks or Duffle bags
Thick socks,
Handwarmers,
gloves,
toques,
scarves,
coats,
blankets,
snow pants,
men's sweaters,
men's pants,
and long johns.

These items can make a difference in someone's life in ways you could only imagine. Thank you for everything everyone has contributed so far. Without you we wouldn't have been able to help so many people.

Want to help? Reach out and we will connect you with out volunteer form, drop-off location, or schedule a pickup within Edmonton. Note that pickup is not same day and we do not accept childrens clothing. Just send us a message. 🥰
