Alberta Browncoats Society

Alberta Browncoats Society Browncoat describes fans of the short-lived television series Firefly. The Alberta Browncoats Society The movie, Serenity, was released in 2005.

Browncoat is a term lovingly applied to fans of the short-lived television series Firefly. The name is based on a nickname for the Independent Faction from the series. When the show was in danger of being cancelled fans campaigned heavily for it’s renewal. While their efforts to save the show failed, their support through DVD sales (a dedicated fan base to be sure), resulted in a movie being made

based on the TV show. As Browncoats, we are dedicated to doing good in unexpected ways while raising funds for Women's and Children's charities.

If you've travelled to San Diego for Comic Con anytime over the past decade, chances are you've seen California Browncoats board member Josh Carter volunteering behind the booth, heard his laugh, or shared stories with him of your entry into fandom or a favourite moment from the 'verse.

If you timed your visit just right, you may have also met his mom while she helped out at the booth as well.

Josh passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. If you have the means, please donate to help his parents with the final expenses.

The verse got a little bit duller this week. Fare thee well Josh. You will be greatly missed.
