Special Olympics Alberta Enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through the power and joy of sport.

There are close to 1,500 coaches and volunteers working year-round giving people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to realize their full athletic potential. Recreational and competitive sport training takes place daily, and competitions take place at the local, provincial, and national levels at regular intervals.

🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that the City of St. Albert will host the 2029 Special Olympics Alberta Provincial Summer Games!

We can’t wait to partner with the St. Albert community to bring this incredible event to life and create an unforgettable experience for athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters from across the province.

The Provincial Summer Games provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to compete, connect, and showcase their athletic talents on a provincial stage. Special Olympics Alberta is excited to announce our partnership with in Calgary, bringing more fitness opportunities for youth with intellectual & developmental disabilities!
 
Westside Recreation Centre is a sport and recreation facility featuring a pool, climbing wall, ice surface and more that offers accessible fitness and recreation programming and activities.
 
Athletes who participate in the Partnership Programming are dual registered - as athletes of Special Olympics Alberta and of Westside Recreation Centre.
 
Westside has incredible programming planned for Summer 2026, registration is open now! Sessions include Fitness Circuit programming for athletes 10-15 years old.
 
Registration must be done through Westside Recreation Centre. To register, contact Meghan at (403) 531-5875 EXT. 270
