Special Olympics Alberta Enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities through the power and joy of sport.

There are close to 1,500 coaches and volunteers working year-round giving people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to realize their full athletic potential. Recreational and competitive sport training takes place daily, and competitions take place at the local, provincial, and national levels at regular intervals.

We can’t believe the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games are already over! Everyone at SOA is incredibly proud of every Team Alberta athlete who trained tirelessly, gave it their all, and represented Alberta with so much heart. From personal bests to podium finishes, unforgettable moments and plenty of smiles, our athletes made these Games one to remember!

A huge congratulations to all of our athletes, coaches, mission staff and everyone who supported Team Alberta along the way. We couldn’t be prouder! 💙

That’s a wrap on the National Summer Games! 💙

What an incredible week it has been in Medicine Hat! Our Team Alberta athletes showed up, gave it their all, supported one another, made new friendships, created unforgettable memories, and represented Alberta with so much pride.

We couldn’t be more proud of every single athlete and everything they accomplished this week. Their hard work, determination, joy, and sportsmanship have been inspiring to watch. 🏅

A huge thank you to our coaches, team staff, families, friends, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who cheered Team Alberta on throughout the Games. You helped make this experience truly unforgettable!

Day 2 of competition is officially COMPLETE! And WOW, our athletes are absolutely killing it! 💙🏅

You can feel the electricity and pure joy in the air here in Medicine Hat. From incredible performances to big cheers, our athletes are showing up and giving it their all.

What an incredible Opening Ceremony!💙 Our athletes did an amazing job representing the host province and they felt the warm welcome from the many fans, families, friends, and supporters who came out to cheer them on.

A huge thank you to our incredible Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics team for carrying in the torch, lighting the cauldron, and helping officially kick off the Games!

The excitement is here, the team is ready, and we can’t wait to see what this week brings!
