Wishing students, families, educators, and school communities a great start to the school year.

This season is full of new routines, big transitions, and small moments of courage.

At e4c, we’re grateful for the donors, volunteers, partners, and supporters who help make programs like School Nutrition, Head Start & Early Learning, Young Chefs, and ArtStart possible.

Your support helps create spaces where children and youth can learn, grow, connect, and feel cared for throughout the year.

Here’s to a school year rooted in community, confidence, and care! 🤝📚

Young Chefs is back.

Hosted in partner schools through e4c’s School Nutrition Program, Young Chefs is an after-school food literacy program where children learn practical kitchen skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Over six weeks, students practise skills like safe knife handling, food preparation, and working together in the kitchen. Each session ends with the group making and sharing a dish together, creating space for confidence, connection, and community.

We’re excited to see this program relaunch and continue helping students build knowledge, independence, and a positive relationship with food.

Art can give students a place to explore, express, and connect. 🎨

After school, creative spaces can help students build confidence, develop friendships, and feel a stronger sense of belonging.

Through visual art, drama, dance, and music, students have the chance to try new things, share their ideas, and discover different ways to express themselves.

That’s why e4c’s ArtStart program offers free after-school arts classes that bring students together through creativity and connection.

Because it’s not “just art.” It can be a place to build confidence, relationships, and community.

A few months later, we’re still thinking about the food shared at the Marion Wheaton Centre naming ceremony.

Everything was so thoughtfully prepared and truly delicious. The Hallway Café staff helped cater the gathering, Chef Holly Holt created dishes rooted in her culture, knowledge, and connection to community, and Double Greeting Wonton House generously supported the event.

Together, the food reflected a beautiful cultural fusion of Chinese and Indigenous traditions, honouring the neighbourhood, the people gathered, and the meaning behind the day.

Food was such a meaningful part of the ceremony. It brought people together, carried story and care, and helped create a warm space for everyone who gathered.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped prepare, serve, sponsor, and share in such a special afternoon.

Food can shape how a day feels.

For a student, food enhancement can support focus, energy, and readiness to learn. For a family or community member, it can offer relief when resources are stretched. For someone navigating housing instability, it can be one more piece of care in an already difficult season.

At e4c, food enhancement is part of how we walk alongside community.

Through programs like School Nutrition, Summer Snack, shelter meals, and food education, we help create moments of nourishment, stability, and connection across Edmonton.

Because food is never just food. It’s care, dignity, and community support.

Today is National Nonprofit Day.

For us, this day is about recognizing the people behind community care.

Nonprofit work is built through relationships. It happens through staff showing up with compassion, volunteers giving their time, donors choosing to support meaningful work, partners stepping forward, and community members trusting us to walk alongside them.

At e4c, we are grateful for every person who helps make this work possible.

From food enhancement and early learning to housing support, employment readiness, financial empowerment, and community connection, our programs are rooted in dignity, belonging, and care.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and neighbours for being part of this work with us.

Community care takes all of us.

Meet Dan, head chef at The Hallway Café. 🍽️

Dan is a Red Seal chef who brings skill, care, and creativity into the kitchen every day. At The Hallway Café, he creates scratch-made, hand-designed menus with input from the youth in the program.

That means the food can reflect their ideas, their cultures, and even family recipes shared through people they love, like their Moshum or Kokum.

For Dan, food is also a way to teach, connect, and build confidence. His work helps make The Hallway Café more than a café. It’s a space where learning, community, and opportunity come together.

Follow along as we continue introducing the people behind e4c’s programs.

And give a follow to see what we have cooking over there! 🥘

Back-to-school season can bring big transitions, especially for little learners.

At e4c, our Head Start & Early Learning program supports children ages 2.8 to 5 as they grow, explore, build confidence, and prepare for kindergarten through play.

It’s also a family journey. We work alongside parents and caregivers, with support from educators, family support workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and other health professionals, to help each child feel supported in their growth and development.

As a new school year begins, we’re celebrating the small classroom moments, caring relationships, and everyday routines that help children feel ready, connected, and supported.

The Hallway Café is more than a café. ☕️

It’s a welcoming space connected to learning, skill-building, and employment readiness for youth.

Behind the food, the prep, and the everyday café moments is a program rooted in opportunity, confidence, and community connection.

There will be more going on over at soon, so give them a follow!

Back in May, we gathered at kinistinâw Park in Edmonton’s Chinatown for the official naming ceremony of our new purpose-built short-term accommodation centre for women.

The new space will be called the Marion Wheaton Centre, named after the matriarch of the Wheaton family.

We are deeply grateful to the Wheaton family for stepping forward to help fund this important project in our community. Their generosity reflects the kind of care and commitment that helps create more supportive spaces for people in Edmonton.

The ceremony began with a blessing from Kokum Goulet, followed by the formal dedication and naming of the building. We also want to thank the dragon dancers for bringing such beautiful energy to the day, and everyone who gathered with us in community.

The Marion Wheaton Centre represents dignity, belonging, and the many people who continue to show up for one another.

Thank you to all who helped make this moment possible.
