Did you know the arts are so valuable to mental and physical health that some countries are trialing "arts on prescription" programs? Read the EAC blog to learn more about social prescribing movements and the impact of arts on health.

In Alberta, social prescribing programs are primarily designed for adults aged 55 and older, but the practice is gaining traction. Know of any art-based prescribing initiatives happening locally? We'd love to hear from you! To read the full article, visit https://www.edmontonarts.ca/blog/social-prescribing-and-arts-engagement

Paityn Savoie’s vision at the Citadel Theatre is starting to come alive, transforming the wall and catching the attention of everyone passing by.

With every new layer of colour, the animals represented in the mural jump off the wall. Telling the story of community, togetherness and the spirit of the Arts District.

This project is proudly presented by National Bank. In partnership with the City of Edmonton, The Citadel and the Edmonton Arts Council.

Research shows that the arts and cultural sector doesn't just reflect the health of the economy — it can actually help drive it.

Research from Indiana University has found when the arts sector becomes stronger economically, it can contribute to better outcomes across industries that aren't directly related to the arts. Further to that, they found that communities with a broad range of artistic activities tend to experience stronger economic growth and recover more quickly during challenging economic periods than places with fewer artistic disciplines represented.

While numbers can't possibly tell the full story, they can help create a fuller picture. For instance, did you know that EAC supported arts organizations generate over $171 million dollars of economic activity annually in Edmonton?

We want to hear from you! Share your story about the arts — how they've made a difference in your life, what arts funding means to you, and what we gain as a city when we fund the arts in Edmonton.

✔️ Comment here or complete our Why the Arts Matter survey.
✔️ Email the mayor or your city councillor with your arts story.
✔️ Support local artists and organizations by attending local arts events and markets (and bring a friend who hasn't been before!)

“Art provides a narrative or a path to get to purpose. I think that’s the magic.”

Kaz Curtis has dedicated his time since fall 2025 to the Boyle Street Community Services Artist-In-Residence program in partnership with the EAC that is meant to increase access to the arts for vulnerable populations.

The program sits at the intersection of the arts and social services as a way to break down barriers to the arts. The joy, hope, resilience and sense of belonging that comes with access can be life changing.

Join the conversation and share your story about the arts - how they've made a difference in your life, what arts funding means to you, and what we gain as a city when we fund the arts in Edmonton.

Here are some action steps you can take to have your say:
✔️ Email the mayor or your city councillor with your arts story.
✔️ Fill in our "Why The Arts Matter" survey through the link in our bio.
✔️ Comment below with a time the arts made a difference in your life.
✔️ Support local artists and organizations by attending local arts events and markets (and bring a friend who hasn't been before!)

Thank you to Old Saw Studio Inc for helping us bring this series to life! And a special thanks to Boyle Street Community Services and Kaz Curtis for their involvement in our series.
